Prince is on the Barbie official playlist on Spotify.

They have 40 songs on there and included "I Would Die 4 U" on the official playlist.

Is it in the movie or are they just clout chasing?

I don't know as I haven't watched the movie, I was just surprised to find it listed on the official playlist.

WB movie, though, haven't WB been integrating more Prince in their film properties?

Hopefully an org represenative live on-site at Barbenheimer weekend will give us confirmation if it made the cut.

Just wondering, what form of promoting Prince's music to younger generations is acceptable to you? Because this seems like a decent way to turn some folks onto his music if they haven't heard it already. I swear, people on this site always find some reason to complain about basic shit even if it helps to preserve Prince's legacy at zero cost.

I didn’t interpret the post as a complaint. Was just asking if it’s in the movie. I think the “clout chasing part” just meant that if it’s not in the movie then it was added to the playlist to improve the playlist.

I'm not sure adding non-movie songs to a playlist is clout chasing. It could fit a mood or whatever they want to convey - something happy, upbeat, positive.

If you have a problem with me, text me. If you don't have my number, you don't know me well enough to have a problem with me.

I got excited during the movie beacause I thought Peach had started to play but it turned out to be some other song - no idea what it was.

The same thing happened to me the other day watching a tv commercial, it started like "Let's Go Crazy" but ended up being something else.

uhhm, probably the form you quoted verbatim.

If it's in the movie it's actually promoting Prince's music to a potential new audience. If it's just a tacked-on add-on to the playlist it's clout-chasing by sheer virtue of the fact that only stans and fanboys and fangirls of the artist would even care it "made the playlist".

People who seek out soundtracks to movies are looking for tracks used in the movie.

Unrelated tracks from unrelated artists drum up publicity from the unrelated artists fans to the movie, not the other way around. Are there big Bright Lights, Big City devotees here? Orrrrr, do maybe some orgers own that soundtrack because they just want the original mix of "Good Love"?

Honestly, as a bit of a soundtrack nerd back in the day the most irritating thing about collecting soundtracks is when they omit tracks they actually used in the movie and put in all this random unrelated B.S. You'd get resentful at the filler for taking up a spot. That stuff is for already-fans, not non-fans, not new-fans, and for places like the org to maybe care about the movie if we didn't already. Stop drinking the corporate multimedia tie-in kool-aid.

Dude, it's 2023. Barbie is a franchise that has been around for decades and this movie is huge. They're doing more of a favor to the Prince estate by including one of his songs in this playlist because I guarantee they don't need Prince's music to draw listeners in. Just because the song isn't in the movie itself doesn't make the promotion any less meaningful.

If there was a Prince song in the movie, you'd just move the goalposts and find some other shit to nitpick, because nothing is ever good enough for orgers.

I enjoyed the movie. I thought that it was going to get preachy at one point but it didn't. It's a good laugh and a bit deeper than you probably imagine! It's definitely got a place in my Mojo Dojo Casa House 🏠 😂🤣😂 Prince music isn't in the film but Lizzo is singing her heart out at the beginning! Awesome 👌

the barbie set design is absolutely incredible

the rest of the film, its ruined by a lot of really unsubtle dialogue

the script isnt show, not tell, its tell, tell, tell.

great aesthetic, design, acting, costumes though. and i loved the dance sequence. weird that ken gets a whole song, though, and barbie (in her own film) doesnt.

I might actually do that. As of literally 4 minutes ago as I type this, I'm officially out of a job so I'll have some time on my hands next week.

I can't help but think that any Ken going to see this movie solo is probably more likely to be too busy looking for another Ken to pay any attention to me lol
