Love and Sex kicks the shit out of several PR songs

Well maybe just Take Me With U and Nikki

100% THIS.

That song is amazing. When I first heard it the hairs on the back of my head stood up. I could not believe the Purple Yoga created something like that and basically buried it in the Vault for decades.

What an insane little genius he was.

Brilliant song, but we need the original master and it also needs a good mix to really shine. The copy released on PRDeluxe was sourced from cassette.

Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

I've seen/heard many interviews with Morris Hayes and everything Prince recorded was "just crazy. They should put that out." So I'm taking this with a grain of salt. wink If there are unknown Purple Rain era tracks in the Vault, well... WB and The Estate have been eager to release anything that has to do with Purple Rain, THE cash cow, so far - so wouldn't they have put it out by now if it was really that crazy great? confused So.. I'm sure a Purple Rain Super Deluxe Edition will get made eventually. There's some stuff we DO know about - thanks to bootlegs - that they could put on there, like Prince's versions of Chocolate, G-Spot, A Million Miles (I Love You) and Divinity, The Purple Piano Medley, Traffic Jam plus full versions of The Glamorous Life and 17 Days. I'd also like the full version of Irresistible Bitch, plus Wednesday and The Dawn. That's an additional Vault CD right there to the one included with the 2017 Deluxe edition which should also be included, but sourced from Prince's actual master tapes, not cassettes . biggrin ANd the fourtieth anniversary of Purple Rain IS coming up next year... smile

No. Because holding things back allows them to update the set slightly and resell it every few years. That's how they milk this cash cow. Pretty much as you described...

Exactly. If they'd immediately released a 10 disc Ultra-Mega-Superfunkycalifagisexy-Deluxe Edition. What would they sell us the next quinquennial anniversary.

.
PR Deluxe was done by Warners, without any involvement from the Estate – and they didn't have access to the vault yet, so they had to rely on cassettes they had.
.
There's so much material in the vault that even after 10 different PR box sets there would still be unreleased mixes, previously unreleased full versions and live material left to release.

Love & Sex kicks the shit out of every song on Purple Rain, except When Doves Cry and I Would Die 4 U

For me, Love&Sex just doesn't work. It doesn't even beat I Would Die 4 U or Purple Rain (yes, I don't much care for those)

.

So.. to me it is just Morris having a different taste to mine and him aping Prince's boasting. Prince made many many songs better than those on Purple Rain, quite a few of them were unreleased during his lifetime. I'm hoping there's loads more. I just doubt there's 5 songs from the 83/84 era though that are better than what has been released this far as the period has been extensively researched and reported on.

He’s 100% correct that the estate needs to put together a panel of musicians who worked with him to curate the vault.
They need people who know what’s there and what the possibilities are.

Mid 90s he was obviously digging through the mid 80s vault. Empty Room, for example.
Sounds like Morris would know a lot of the “known” bootlegs.

Everybody wants to curate the vault. Wendy & Lisa has said the same thing as Morris. But every fan has their own idea of what they'd like released. Someone will always think releases could have been done better. Like, didn't Morris get involved in Welcome 2 America? ANd then we got a collection of tracks from three different configurations instead of Prince's actual final configuration. I wasn't pleased about that. sad So please keep Morris, Wendy & Lisa, Sheila E. or whomever away from the Vault. Their views are bigoted. We need someone neutral to look at what Prince did, not someone looking biased at what they did with Prince. smile
