"Uh-Huh" quick question..

More like a chicken or egg type of question. Did Prince's version come out after the Diet Pepsi / Ray Charles version?

Walking alone in the dark, I see nothing u see
I can be in a park, or flying in the…in the deep sea
I wish u’d hold my hand; then everything could b
There’s nothing strange, we’re not deranged

Just had a look on PrinceVault and it says the song "contains samples of Ray Charles playing the piano from a popular Pepsi commercial" and "uses the drink's slogan as part of the chorus". Going off this I would say the song came AFTER as it samples the piano from the advert. Hope this helps!!

Yeah, I don't think that's true.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

things are very hazy, especially these unimporant details, but I think he did have a coca cola sponsorship for a tour somewhere early to mid 90's. Since with cola I only imagine Coca Cola, it might have well been Pepsi and my mind altered it.

.

Whether it was a full-on sponsorship of the tour or only a few stops along the way, I don't remember, I do remember seeing a sponsor, it stood out.

.

Then again, the details are extremely hazy.

Hope this isn’t just the power of suggestion, but I now recall a Coke sponsorship too, around D&P or Act 1 tour in the UK. Late 91 to 93?

Certainly sponsored by Coke for the Act II tour in 1993

Edit: And Coke were a sponsor in at least the Australia section of the D&P tour in 1992

Edit: But Pepsi did present Prince on at least this Jam of the Year show in 1997
