Adriano Celentano’s ‘Prisencolinensinainciusol’ and ‘Train’

Catching Celentano’s song on the radio earlier, I was struck for the first time how much it sounded like ‘Train’. Do we think Prince was inspired by the song? The train-like beat and horns are very much alike and the song overall sounded so similar I could hear Prince’s lyrics as I listened to it.

I hear minimal similarities....but i doubt that one inspired the other...thats a pretty basic beat that could easily be coincidentally reincarnated or reproduced

True, and you’re right, it is likely a coincidence. The main culprit however: the sax. A very similar riff recurs throughout both songs (for example at 1.30 in ‘Train’).

I listened to both again....those horn lines, while they are not note for note similar, they are somewhat similar in regards to their rhythmic placing...you might be onto something here...but now what has me confused is that Adriano's song (on Tidal, it says it) came out in 2008, several years after P made Train...

The song came out in 1972. Whichever version you saw on Tidal is presumably a remaster or rerelease from 2008.

Ok that makes more sense...thankyou for that info...the song sounds so much more current than 1972, because the man is even rapping well before traditional "rap music" had become a thing .. but people rhyming over beats has obviously been a thing for at least a century now, well before hiphop as we now know it, existed

I agree the basic rhythmic structure of Train is very similar to this song (never heard it until today and I think it's quite striking - his other stuff is more trad Italiano!). I believe Prince was inspired by the groove and built his song on it - makes a much better song in the process though!
