Prince diss tracks So I'm watching the longer "Partyman" video. He playfully answers Lenny's "Rock n' Roll Is Dead" with "Rock n' Roll Is Alive." Rock n' Roll Is Alive (to Lenny Kravtiz) Hello (USA For Africa aka bad press) Billy Jack Bitch (C. James aka critics) PFunk; No More Candy 4 U (to fans)

was that "partyman is from 1982" ever substantiated and, if so, to what extent did it exist in 1982

In the 1983 recording of The Time Live at First Avenue show. During the intermission Morris takes money collection, and takes a few jabs at Prince. Brother "Prince played here a week or 2 ago" "I stayed home that night" He goes on to say "Prince are you out there? Did you give? You took, did you give?" Now fast forward to The Family's track "Mutiny" At the end of the song you can hear Prince say "Morris, did you give?" It makes me wonder if the song was a diss at Morris. But then again he does throw micos name in there too. I will take my place, In the great below

Same reason he was fueding with Rick James fresh on the scene, He was trying to be the big dawg on the playground by taking out the progenitors of funk up one by one.

Didn't a former manager try to sue him over Jughead?
Not a song but he flat out dissed Ed Sheeran in "The Beautiful Ones" book He does an impression of Ozzy Osbourne on the Aladdin DVD A couple of lyrics aimed and MJ, "my voice is getting higher and I never had my nose done" / "the fool walking into walls" I think there are far more diss tracks aimed at former lovers. "Mad Sex", "Guitar", "Ain't Gonna Miss You When You're Gone" [Edited 7/12/23 7:37am]

TrivialPursuit said: I've only been able to watch that concert once. I had no idea what I was watching (dates etc), but when they did "Jungle Love," well - that clicked obviously. Morris took some pretty hard stabs with his line. I don't see how Prince thought he was getting back at him. It's sorta the same vein as "It's time to fix your clock!" October 4th 1983. The Time - First Avenue. Sound board recording. Pretty sure you are describing the same show. What a surprise, Morris throws shade at Prince. And a few tracks/bits from that show end up in the Purple Rain movie. And the times album I will take my place, In the great below

I'm pretty sure "Chocolate" is the song borrowed from for "What Have You Done For Me Lately". Those and "Irresistable Bitch", "Tricky" all stem from "Cloreen Baconskin" "Whatever skin we're in
we all need 2 b friends" | |

Surely there's a Justin Timberlake diss in there. "Who's out here talking about 'bringing sexy back'?!?!!! Sexy never left!"

Onedayi'mgonnabesomebody - the song isn't a diss track, but the laughter with "we don't like New Wave" is a diss towards Andre Cymone and his debut album Livin' in the New Wave

Don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but Da Bourgeoise as a diss/dig toward Andy Allo (allegedly). And I guess by default that makes Bambi a diss to lesbians in general lmao eye dont think U heard me . . .

Justin Timberlake isn't even sexy enough to make that statements.he is a good looking cat but sexy? No way Now if the lead singer of maroon 5 or Maxwell said that would be a different story

I don't know if Old Friends 4 Sale counts as a "diss track", speaking of old acquaintances. Different versions mention cocaine and selling photos to the press.

I suspected that it could be that reference, although considering the widespread cocaine abuse by the star system during a good part of the eighties, it was not very clear to me that the comment was directed at anyone in particular, but rather that it was a general criticism pervasiveness of pop life... including Prince himself for a brief part of his life? I know I'm going off topic, but his attitude for example at the infamous James Brown concert offers a couple of clues. Please note that I am not judging, I myself had a time in which I was an active user of cocaine (I am not ashamed to admit it, as well as that it was one of the worst times of my life), so I think it is quite easy to realize of these things...
