The drumming on All A Share Together doesn't sound like Prince to me...

Can someone help me on this one?

Is it John Blackwell?

It definitely sounds like John Blackwell to me.

One-chord vamp with words. It’s so slight in terms of songwriting, I find it hard to even have an opinion of…
I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

Exactly... just out of curiousity i looked for the lyrics.

Must be from ''The Rainbow Children (II)'' i guess, or at least from one of these recording sessions,

Lyrics not (all that much) interesting. Same old preachin'.

Uh
Dig me now
Like father teaches
Like a son do
With each generation
The past improved
Wealthy, wise
And stronger still (Uh)
No generation taking more
Than their fill
Like an arm reaches
The baton passes on
The scriptures teach us
No matter how long
The debt of the ones before us
Must be paid
All a share together now (Whoo)
Dig me now
Dig me later
Dig me now
Dig me later
Surplus (surplus)
Deficit (each on it)
Let's work together now
For betterment
Of all the brothers
And sisters (sisters too)
Under one God
The true God
All a share together now
Come on uh
All a share together now
Come on
Enemy sleepin' (what?)
At the bottom of the hill (Mm)
Good for nothing tauntin'
For us to kill them
Still hold fast
Never slay without a reason
Regardless of the crime
For everything there's a season
Everything with a time
Whatever a man reaps
So shall he sow (you told me)
All together now
Give unto all
What you want in your life
Watch the blessings just flow
All together now (whoo)
Let's stand (Mm)
All together now
Hit me, band
If you don't mind
I got something I got to say
She picked him out of a crowded room
There was only joy and laughter
She had a plan
To change all that real soon
She always knew
What she was after
Bass
She tried to stop the fate!
All a share together now
Whoo (Uh)
C'mon
All a share together now
Uh
All a share together now
All a share together now
That's good
"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Someone on another site says this reminds them of Jay-Z's "Tom Ford."

Now I'm convinced Jay-Z mined the Vault for tracks to rip-off during the Tidal curation for Originals.

It's quite similar to "Tom Ford".

The last debate I saw in the thread before it was taken down was whether Prince is singing "All a share together" or "All to share together". It sounds like "a" to me. I can't hear a "t" sound. I suppose "to" might make slightly more sense, but it would still be awakward... and, as we've seen time and time again, Prince's lyrics often didn't make sense, so that's no proof the word isn't "a".

Lyrics are one thing, his titles, though, usually made sense even if you had to translate a Princebonic or two.

Tom Ford came out in 2013

It also has virtually no similarities to the Prince track aside from maybe the bounciness of the kick drum in the beat, and that's a laughable argument for Jay Z "ripping off vault tracks"

I really like it, sounds like John Blackwell on drums for sure, do we know when it was recorded? I think the song is about sharing in the wealth we all produce but only a few reap the majority of the rewards from.

Reminds me a lot of the groove on that live track he did which talks about burgers and the "answer to the DNF" ?? or something (sorry can't remember the title) - remember it being with a newish band he was trying out perhaps (was Mono Neon playing maybe?) it was at a small venue in MN if I remember correctly.
EDIT: found it Chapter and Verse! The simple groove and lyrical flow and content seem in a similar vein.

Sounds to me like he's singing "All us share together now", slurring the "s" from "us" into "share". "All a share together now" makes no sense to me. Funky tune tho! smile
