Pretty surprised to see him so high, after a life time of seeing him short changed by these kind of lists.

Nonsense...not even the greatest Prince song of all time....not even the best song on its own album.

Prince has nine songs on the list and he gets number 1 over perenial favorites like Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, God only Knows etc. Not a bad list with some surprises. Leans on the nineties quite a bit for the songs. Some nice picks. I like that soft and wet was in the list for example. Hight recognition for A change is gonna come by Sam Cooke (a personal fave of mine). The positive response for Prince I see on this list I take as a win.

The Beautiful Ones is my favorite song on Purple Rain (favorite Prince song for me too), but on a vox pop pole, I would not expect people to vote for what album tracks that never had real radio play. That is not how a listener poll works. Your sweet caroline, sloop john b type songs get the love and your favorite obscure (only if very slightly obscure) track gets ignored.

Agreed. But this is presumably a pop radio station. So you can immediately discount anything that wasn't a big hit single. Purple Rain is THE Prince song to most people.

It changes all the time but I'm obsessed with the song Revelation.

It's so simple yet so powerful.

"When Doves Cry" used to be the main hit from that album but at some point "Purple Rain" somehow superceded it. Probably due to Prince kind of overcompensating for shunning it during the 90s. During the 00s until he transitioned he fully embraced being the "Purple Rain" guy when I'd argue he was actually the Purple Rain guy and the biggest success from Purple Rain was "When Doves Cry"... once upon a time.

His greater studio creation hits like "When Doves Cry" and "Kiss" were always the most lacking in his "real music by real musicians" gimmick when he would tour, so maybe this also played a part... Every tribute being PR likely contributes, too... Anyway now they've flipped where PR is the overplayed one single hit average joe knows while WDC is brand new to gen-Z.

Well that makes sense, since the original version is largely a live recording.

Definitely one of his greatest songs...somewhat underrated and overlooked in regards to its greatness

im not talking about the semi live album version, im talking about it properly live, where it gets to breathe more, preferably for 19 minutes.
