I agree. The released version is what was decided to be the version to release for a reason. This demo sounds just like what it is, a demo. I think the newness of the demo gets everyobe exited about it. i think that the reeased versiion id=s the better of the two.

It's not the newness that has people excited. It's the quality. It's got a far more organic sound. And the guitar fills are slick as hell.

This is why it's so ridiculous when 80s purple junkiez try and act like "we got it all already" or whatev. A simple alternate version of honestly one of my most skipped Prince tracks ever, maybe the unequivocal GOAT of Prince track skipping every. time."This is the liiife of the paaarta--"SKIP--is such a friggin' revelation and true delight, how can anyone we're scraping the bottom of the Vault now?

Literally on paper this reads like the most underwhelming leak ever but it's so, so damn good. The Camille voice improves everything. I'll never understand the section of the org pining for de-Camille'd vox in the proper pitch. Camille is the essence of Prince. Pure, unfiltered left-field funktastic art. every. time.

Totally agree!

Adore (demo)?
If you mean the one Candy broadcasted then it's just a version from a 2004 rehearsal.

Sorry, it's Adore (Unreleased version),

not the Candy broadcasted version.

It's the same version from the same 2004 rehearsal, just different quality.

This is so much better than the official release...I was disappointed with the album version after hearing it live a few months earlier in 2003..same thing happened when I heard Come (Spiritual Revoluion version) vs the official release....so much more interesting and it links to the 'spiritual revolution' line on the inside cover...hell the whole vibe of the unreleased version fits better on the album IMHO...

That said, the Camille version of Life of the Party is quite different to the rest of the Musicology album so I don't think it'd fit so well...but the album version is 'dead' compared to this version

I think the released version is just sluggish to the point of boring. The unreleased version or demo has a rare energy to it that has been lacking in most of his last releaes.

You gave me an idea. Pitch UP his vocals on some songs instead. More Camille! I recently did a pitch down on his Camille songs and a few others in Audacity. I like 'normal Prince vox on some, less so on others. Until you've listened a few times the results are jarring initially. Cosmic Day is much better in Prince's natural voice.

This version of LOTP sounds similar to me to F.U.N.K., which was originally recorded around the same time. I like ‘em both.

https://princevault.com/i..._The_Party

“Initial recording dates [of Life O’ The Party] are unknown, but it is likely that the track was recorded in 2003 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.“

https://princevault.com/i...e=F.U.N.K.

“Engineer Jesse Sutcliffe says this song (F.U.N.K.) was recorded around the time the Musicology album was conceived which places its initial recording around 2003 or early 2004. It is believed Prince updated the lyrics and re-recorded the track on 7 November 2007.” Is the 2003 version circulating, and does anyone know if it has the Camille-type voice?
There may or may not be something coming!

In terms of instrumentation, this version of Life O The Party sounds a lot like Illusion Coma Pimp & Circumstance (the bass, synth, guitar parts) so I guess they couldn't both be on the same record, presumably Prince reworked Life O The Party for that reason.

I always thought Illusion, Coma would’ve worked better with some Camille vocals in there. If not the main verses, then maybe the choruses. I wonder if there is a Camille version of that floating around as well.

I really don't like this Musicology "Life 'O' The Party" album version.

To my humble opinion, the song is crap, the lyrics are pure thin air,

and the overall vibe is... lesser than poor. I just listened to it again,

back to back with the new version., which is a bit more fun.

His vocals are way more fun (not only because of the Camile voice...),

and the fil-ins with guitar and synths are more fresh and follow the live drums.

But this new version too short. I even think they cut it off...

Must be another longer version. It should be.

The old thin version with a two-note annoying piano loop, a forced drum loop, poor horn fil-ins, sorry gals and guys, it's like a worthless b-side to me.

It even doesn't have a party feel when you play it loud, and it's a bit to slow to my likes.

Still both versions are very thin party songs (to me).

Prince did far better; compare both versions with the utmost fun and super thin ''Trick'' B-side...

Camille is so gifted
It's like he/she can't make a bad song
I always thought the album version of "life of the party" was good but could've been a lot better
This new version blows the album version out of the water and it sounds so fresh.

Released version was a huge dud
That was more like death of a party
This isnt going to be the song you play to ignite a party
But its a good warm up party song
So its gone from 1 star to 5.5

it lasted just long enough for us to end up with that amazing song. i'm so glad we got that,
even if it was a sort of fuck you.

what i want from the estate is a boxset of angry vault tracks. i'm sure he recorded many of
them but filed them away for obvious reasons.

rarely we got a glimpse of pissed off prince and it usually resulted in great music.

so what i want is "No Fury Like prince Scorned" instead of Originals 2 or some bullshit smile

I did this by accident in 1986: playing the love or money b-side on 33 rpm instead of 45. Liked the slowed down version a lot, sounds like Sly Stone

Just heard it. DAMN! Prince slaying the drums and bass guitar (and everything else). Still got love for the album version, but wow... would love to hear more than 2:01, as it obviously cuts off. Lovin the go-go feel with bells.
