Report on unreleased music played at Celebration 2023

My group saw footage and it was Yokohama 1986 pro shot.

.

After 45 minutes of that concert we lined up to go into studio C for the listening shesh. Walking in we heard P humming over playing piano...kind of working out a tune.

.

(Song P was playing...no lyrics just music was called "The Rain in You" and it was an 18 minute instrumental.

.

Next song was a version of 7 in E flat. It resembles 2 Whom it May Concern. Very funky! People were on their feet dancing! It was recorded August 8, 1992.

.

Next was "Everything Could Be So Fine" recorded July 7, 1987. Intended for Graffiti Bridge, it was an uptempo song and had Cat and Sheila singing background. It also named checked Melody Cool.

.

Next "The Rock that Keeps Rolling". This moderate tempo take was recorded 8/7/92 but originated during the Lovesexy era.

.

Next MY BOYFRIEND ERA RECORDED IN 2002! A beautiful ballad entitled "All the Kings Men" as per the label on the box. Smooth R&B track about getting back together with a lover. "All the kings horses and all the kings men, they can put us back together again"....

.

Next "I Believe I Love You" tracked 7/27/87 "British feel" as per Charles Spicer and inspired by Ana Fantastic as per Casey Rain. Short little bop also intended for Graffiti Bridge.

.

Don't Play With Love" tracked 6/28/85. It was found in a box labeled "Prince and Dad" and featured John L Nelson on keys with P singing falsetto with a drum loop.

.

Next WHEW, tracked 4/4/2006 probably with Bland, Sonny T, and P an instrumental to fit on Lotusflow3r. "Della Black Heart". Rocky. Bland went CRAZY on the drums. Prince went CRAZY on guitar solos. Imagine it as the sibling of "I Am" from Deliverance, but with more solos.

.

Next "You're Such a Tease" also tracked 2006. R&B jazzy feel. "Let me see your fingernails looks like u want to scratch me and leave a mark. I like it"

.

Next the full version of the song from the celebration promo. It's called "All Are Shared Together Now" tracked September 2006.

.

Final song was an acoustic version of Soft and Wet (demo from back in the day)

.

.

If there's not an announcement by the time Celebration wraps up then honestly fuck them. They have the goods. For those doubting the amount of potential D&P stuff, NONE of these titles are familiar to me. Think about how much stuff there is that we have absolutely ZERO clue exists.

The list from celebration is a good companion piece to that thread saying "we already have everything."

There's clearly more out there. The dates on these wouldn't place them on any hypothetical D&P deluxe. which despite what seems like decades of anticipation/hype still has zero.zero appeal to me as someone who finds D&P to be one of his most tepid eras/projects.

Which is sad because I can't imagine I'm the only Prince fan underwhelmed by the idea of a D&P deluxe. It ain't gonna sell the like the other sets, it just won't. That's a fact. And the estate will use that lack of sales to justify scaling back to even fewer Vault releases and probably triple-down on more unnecessary PR re-releases re-issues re-deluxe re-bonus tracks blah blah blah.

Damn his 4 modern-"known" hits until the end of time. These stooges really believe the almost 5 million that bought the CD in '91 are gonna cycle back around some 33 years for the double dip? The fanatics that are gonna pay big bucks for the SDE to one of his worst records of the 90s would rather have these Celebration tracks, but they're gonna go collect dust somewhere instead...

NEVERMIND it looks like a lot of these titles were on Princevault and I just wasn't observant. Still. Some weren't.

The best of both worlds would be to regularly release previously unreleased stuff *and* to also preview unreleased stuff at the Celebrations. Previewing meaning that those recordings would stay unreleased for X years before finally being released to the general public. I could see that working for live recordings more than for studio outtakes.

It could be a frustrating experience. You get to hear it once and then never again.

They should allow them to hear stuff the is imminently going tp be released.

Absolutely: well said!

As I'll listen now to the Yokohama concert, I'll think about the video version that I'll never see (except 4 potential Parade SDE?).

Yeah it feels odd from like a media fan relations standpoint.. I mean you know if the estate was handled with any logic, reason or sense of gravitas and import.

You wouldn't catch Disney or Marvel just one-off showing some archived lost footage at a comic con without some bigger-picture plan or concept for something that is for the larger audience en masse.

Fingers crossed Yokohama will be part of the future Parade SDE.

Also interesting to see Graffiti Bridge outtakes. There’s a strong rumour about an SDE edition in the works… but maybe a long way off. Lots of vault songs re-recorded for it… so more interesting than it might seem.

Don’t expect a D&P announcement at the Celebration… it’s coming but I’ve heard they don’t want to announce too soon.

Let's only hope someone put his cellphone on 'record' (in his pocket, at least)...

Or when the elite thinks its time for us mortals to hear it.

Probably by a time when we all have hearing aid.

"Too soon"?!?!?!?! That's a joke, right? This has been in the works for years, photos have already leaked to the internet, and fans are drifting away because of the draught of new releases. It's already too late.

If there is anyone in estate or the marketing department who genuinely believes the Celebration is too soon to announce it, they are not good at their jobs. They need to look in the mirror and say to themseves, "I understand nothing about record promotion and I should find another field of work."

If they screw up and there's no announcement now then it will only piss off fans even more and make them loose interest witch could affect sales for future releases. So it's definitely not too soon, that's for sure.

I’m not sure of the reasons either, it has something to do not promoting it for too long.. and dragging it out.
Seems strange, as we all already know what’s coming, more or less.

That is some shady shit to have all that goodness accessible only to those willing to fork out the big macaroni. I know I sound bitter but I felt genuine anger knowing they have a full pro-shot Yokohama 1986 sitting pretty at PP. I can't be the only one 😂

I think the problem is that they're still not sure when they can release it since it's was supposed to be released in July and then it was postponed to October.

Probably.

I heard that the estate pulled the plug on the original version Warner were ready with, and it all had to change. Let's hope for October.
