side 2 of parade never made sense to me cos the first side was so perfect and seamless, that whole run from the first song up to venus de milo... idk why he didnt keep that kinda sequencing going for the second half. id have kept do u lie, added all my dreams, old friends for sale, an honest man. anotherlover, kiss, mountains are all great songs/singles, but idk, they just dont really fit the vibe of the film/first half of the album.

Non-LP single would've been better but he had the movie to promote so "Kiss" became his big steaming detour off the larger album concept like "Vogue" did with Madonna's I'm Breathless record.

Major labels doing non album singles in the 80s? Doubtful. Kiss is just there cos he knew it would be a hit, or wanted the album to have a hit.

What we need is a far better mix of this song. Actually of the whol album. A remastered version, AND better mix to be precise. There's so much to discover in this song. Kurwa! "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Hmmm. Dead On It and Bob George stop it being a masterpiece for me. The former is awful. Le Grind, Cindy C, Rock Hard, Superfunky..., ,2 Nigs and When 2 R In Love are all brilliant though.

I love bob George but its more like a great/weird b side song Not an album track lol Same for dead on it When 2 r... also should not be on this album So weird that its there lol The rest though is literally a blast Its an album that sounds like he shot it out, but in a good way I love the intesity and freakiness of it

and yet, a few years after this, he would do exactly that when the B-Side to "New Power Generation, "Get Off", was reworked for inclusion on his following album with the track "Gett Off". While the two tunes are radically different, it's still obvious that he reworked the former to create the latter.

can you imagine: a) The Black Album is released in December 1987 as planned b) Cindy C is dropped to clubs all over the world, with 5 different versions on the 12 inch c) Cindy Crawford is taking all this lightheartedly and with humour and agrees to appear in a stylish video - heavy MTV rotation guaranteed

This song gets stuck in my head for days. Just like most of Black Album its so funky and funny. I never got a dark mood from this album..more of a party/club record imo. Bob George is the only one that is sorta dark...but even that is sprinkled with satire. Didn't Susan Rogers say they laughed like crazy when they were recording BG?
BTW, Parade has my fave opening song sequence. But that first side of 1999 is pretty flawless as well.

The fact prince thought tba was too dark tells you how far in the past the prince of 82 was. Saying that, tba is kinda dark, or just creepy really. Its prince in full sex creep mode. Cindy c was prob turned off by the song. Cant inagine her being a fan. And well, that's ok, and as it should be lol. But the black album is one of the least compromising things he did in the 80s and it would have been a better EP than LP, but it would have been cool to see the response to it. Ppl were thinking prince albums were all big statements but this one was just a collection of bangers, weird stuff, an out of place but sublime ballad and ago for broke jazz rock track. Great reĺease basically! I agree with alan Leeds that it wouldve been a marker in his career that he prob needed. But i think id have liked warners to have let him release tba as a low key, quiet, maybe cpromo only release, AND lovesexy as the proper album.

. That would've sucked.
I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

That is actually an interesting thought. A side: Le Grind Cindy C B side: Bob George Superfunkycalifragisexy
Quiet release, maybe whitelabel only to clubs
