Cindy C

Top 10 P. Did I make this thread recently? I can't remember. Anyway, masterpiece. Absolute masterpiece. Fucking off the wall energy, borderline psycho lyricism against a thumping background of pure funk accented by that SEXY AS FUCK horn line that runs throughout.

Don't all girls look the same? They don't? Oh, what a shame.

That breakdown around the 4 minute mark. Sheila and Cat's constant backing vox, the music is the key rap, don't you want to play with me?

MASTERPIECE

In my Top 5 of all time

That out-of-control guitar in the middle of the song before it heads into the rap part...

UNBELIEVABLE!

Hey Estate - I'll pay you to be able to listen to the isolated tracks

Those two songs together are a bit like "The Future" and "Electric Chair, or "1999" and "Little Red Corvette." They'll always be holding hands.

Those are three good examples of "The Best Two Opening Tracks On An Album."

SOTT/Play In The Sunshine

My Name is Prince/Sexy MF

... also come to mind.

It is a freaking masterpiece. It thumps and pulsates with insane life and energy. It’s also “Super Prince-y”. Who else writes music like this???

I agree. I used to give the edge to Le Grind, but now if I had to pick, Cindy C would be my favorite on the album.

Love it, but basically it’s the extended La,la, la, he, he, hee with alt lyrics.

Always made me a bit suspicious about the whole Black Album thing. Was he really going to revamp a recent B Side for an album track, and possible single!??

Because he'd never done that before with "17 Days," "Blue Limosine," and "Toy Box."

Remind me what Prince albums those are on wink
Not really the same as taking a B-Side from one album and turning it into an album track for his very next release. Feels… unlikely.

The point is that Prince has re-done himself more than once. I don't necessarily hear the "La La La" references in "Cindy C." But, maybe to some it's there.

And let's face it: Every protege album back then was a Prince album, cuz you can hear his ass under the main vocalist. haha

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I thought about that, but then I considered just because they're segued doesn't mean they're a twosome like that. "Alphabet St." starts rather abruptly. Moreover, "Glam Slam" and "Anna Stasia" are more like sisters there.

I would add "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and "Why U Wanna Treat Me So Bad" because one is a synthy pop R&B song, and the next has a rock edge to it. Yin/yang.

Granted, not every one of his records has this, but the few that do are pretty great sets.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Love Cindy C and the whole Black album.

On the subject of opening 1, 2 good tracks, I’d add:

‘Dirty Mind’ & ‘When You Were Mine’

‘Controversy’ & ‘Sexuality’

‘Chaos And Disorder’ & ‘I Like It There’

‘Musicology’ & ‘Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance’

‘Planet Earth’ & ‘Guitar’

‘Baltimore’ & ‘Rocknroll Loveaffair’
There may or may not be something coming!

Im about to drive my son to work, and im gonna do the same..."Sexy Dancer" is in my personal top 5 favorite Prince songs of all time...its the song that made me not dislike him anymore when i was a youth...i ignored his first album when it was new, and it took me years to get into IWBYL on his 2nd lp, but "Sexy Dancer" was love at first listen in 1979...same with the underrated and overlooked "Its Gonna Be Lonely" on his 2nd album...

I think his whole second album is way underappreciated by people. I have to admit that from
time to time I forget about it too, just because of the huge amount of music he made and I'm
always listening to something else. But whenever I return to it, I'm so happy to be listening
to those songs again, it's a very good record.
