This might be a little controversial, but I think the TRUE ideal Purple Rain SDE would include material from A6, The Time and The Modernaires in addition to an expansion of the previous expanded release:
  • Remastered Purple Rain album
  • Single Edits & B-sides
  • Vault Tracks 1 (corrected/remastered from Deluxe edition)
  • Vault Tracks 2 (additional disc of era vault tracks, i.e. completed "live" Electric Intercourse w/ overdubs, extended The Beautiful Ones, Modernaire, etc.)
  • Remastered Apollonia 6
  • A6 Single Edits & B-sides + Vault
  • Remastered Ice Cream Castle
  • Ice Cream Castle Single Edits & B-sides + Vault (studio The Bird, My Love Belongs to You, etc.)
  • DVD/Blu-Ray of Purple Rain + Music Videos + Deleted Scenes (if extant) + A6 Mini Movie + 1983 First Avenue concert

I heard that the Electric Intercourse live version from FA 83 was worked on with studio overdubs but was abandonned quick and never finished so I don't think we'll ever get to hear this from the Estate.

I heard too...there is another one full alternate studio take of Electric Intercourse !

Citation needed. Per Duane's book overdubs were added on 12 September 1983, and the session was committed to tape. We've all heard the concert leak -- how many studio days do you think Prince needed to finish it off??

Maybe I'm the only person alive who'd want this on the SDE, but I'll just say it...I'd love a disc of Michel Colombier's incidental score.

Ah sorry, I was mixing up two versions of this track.
The live version with studio dubs was finished and in 85 or 86 and mixed for a B-side release.
In 1995 it was pulled out the vault to be re-recorded for Emancipation and THAT verison was abandonned for Let's Have a Baby according to a more knowledgable source.

they could release it as a standalone for the 40th aniversary of Purple Rain. No need for it to be in the SDE because Prince didn't have much or anything to do with the score.

No worries, and thanks for that additional info! I was unaware of a 1995 version.

As all of you, I would love so much for this "potential" release but it's not going to happen. So why making assumptions?

because it (and other releases) was already being worked on for the last 5 years so a Purple Rain SDE was planned (among others).

JOSIE..you seem to have good info...can we not bet that we'll see a Purple Rain SDE next year, it being the 40th Anniversary of the album's release?

I'd also like for them to re-release the movie in theatres for the 40th anniversary smile

that makes two of us.

But a stand alone release, or a RSD release would be better imho.

I dont' want any fooling around with the mixes BUT....did he really intend for us not to hear his wicked azz vocals on Love and Sex? I mean, the man is shout/scream/singing all the way through. It is a feat to be able to do this...yet, it's so low in the damn mix. I feel that one is from a cassette for sure b/c it also sounds murky....especially when compared to the stelllar sound of the vault releases that followed.

I don't know about including the full Apollonia 6/The Time albums inside of a Purple Rain: SDE . . . but for sure Sex Shooter, Jungle Love, and The Bird (as well as Modernaire) should be included.

2024 would make the most logical, perfect time (40 year anniversary) to release it . . . I guess 7 years is long enough between Purple Rain releases?

Agreed, Love And Sex badly needs a new mix (and to be sourced from the original master, of course, as the one that came out on Purple Rain Deluxe was sourced from cassette).

If late 2022 and 2023 are any indication of how this new estate runs things, I seriously doubt there will be a PR SDE for the 40th anniversary. I think we’ll just have to be thankful for PR Deluxe Edition Expanded, 1999, & SOTT SDEs because we ain’t getting anything else. Sad but true.
