A statement by "Official Cat Glover" on Facebook

The below came up on Facebook Feed:
Joint statement from Cat and Hayley
Here we go ………the week that the
unscrupulous folk come out of the wood work for interviews cash in's
etc.
For us this week and every week is about Prince and honouring his legacy and his work. Remembering our friend.
Music was his life, not duvet covers, socks etc so let's get back to the music and give the fans what they really want. We know ... we've been getting the inboxes.

It is not just us who want to see this mess resolved.

"Official Cat Glover" knows that she can profit from the release of music she did background/rap on.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Do you know that Prince released music for the money?

Indeed ALL professional musicians seek to release or perform music for the money - even backing singers (note the change from the dismissive term you used), band member, session musicians, and rappers.

They also do it for the love of music - so much love that they have been able to be professional musicians.

None of us here makes sure that the only music we listen to, like, or follow etc is that where no one earns money from these performances and releases.

maybe! some such work is 'work for hire' and may or may not include any royalties or residuals.

And it is an irrelevant way of seeking to dismiss someone who also wants Prince's music better managed.

Even if Cat could earn anything, her tenure and involvement with any potential future release with a payable due to her is a very small fraction of Prince's potential new or newly packaged releases.

No. The statement was released on her pre-existing facebook group that started before Prince's death.

The statement is not unscrupulous. As far as I am aware she did not give any interviews for cash. Just honouring Prince's legacy, work and remembering her friend whilst calling for a return to the music rather than duvet covers and socks.

The more people like Cat claim to be above it all, the more it proves they aren't. She's not nobler or more respectful than anyone else this time of year. (Same goes for June.) She worked with Prince for what - 2 years? Good for her. That's 2 years more than any of us. But she's no more of a rapper than Sheila E. (another one of the self-imposed importantés). She doesn't carry the holy grail of all things Princestory (again, read: Escovedo). She's proven to be as interesting as Ingrid.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

As you say that 2 years more than any of us - which is 'has worked with Prince front of stage' vs 'never have worked with him in any way, shape, or form'. As such she is infinitely more involved and much more important than you or I.

However, rather than seeking to claim any "importantés" status, she is basically in complete agreement with us. Nothing in the statement was a claim to be above it all, to be an important rapper or carrying any holy grail of Princestory. All the statement was is merely a reaction to the lack of output from the Estate other than socks and duvets and that she, and others, are getting EMs from fans complaining about this.

I thing the lady doth protest with ratiocination. There is no competition or conflict between her comments and our's.

Meanwhile we have people in charge like Londell who are on twitter trying to claim credit for the world receiving Musicology, as if Prince needed his aid to release the album (???)

Exactly.

This guy's claims here are just eek

Wow, we've entered some kind of TrashTrump era where facts aren't facts anymore. I mean, this guy was just a lawyer paid to do whatever Prince asked him to do. Prince was the visionnary about this all. LMM was just some kind of helping hand. In not so long, he's gonna take some credits for the music too lol

This is insane.

Didn't Cat get on a podcast and denounce going into the vault and releasing posthumous music?

I have no idea.

What I do know is that in an BBC interview she said she would like to see "Slammin" and and waht sounded like "Corn bread Wrappers" released. She said there was already 2000 tracks in the Vault at the time she was there and did not say they should NOT be released. This interview was when Prince was alive. Maybe in the grief over his death she briefly changed her mind, maybe it is something taken out of context, maybe it never occured. Does it matter? No, because now today, despite so many Orgers here wanting to hate on her, she is on our side and wants music released to honour his legacy and work much better than duvet covers and socks.

I don't know what her position has been over the years, but if it is true that she advocated the release of vault tracks when Prince was alive, but opposes it now that he's passed, I wouldn't seen any inconsistency at all.

If the tracks had been released while he was alives, that would have been his decision. But if they're released after he's passed, then someone else is making that call. It's perfectly reasonable for someone to say, "I hope Prince volunteers to release specific tracks of his own choosing, but I wouldn't want someone else making those descisions about his music."

There is no "if" she advocated the release of tracks from the Vault - you can play her saying this on BBC World Service - Link.

Equally, she just last month called for releases from the Estate "to get back to the music and give the fans what they really want."

Against this perhaps she may have said something against releases from the Vault. This would also not be inconsistent if she meant the Estate should make sure that there is not an un-curated open slather dump of music from the Vault. Such a dump would not be respectful to Prince's legacy or music. I could not find any criticism from her about the release of "Originals" and found nothing but praise from her in regard to the SOTT SDE. So, it appears that she has not made any negative comments against these posthumous decisions to release songs from the Vault in a way that respects Prince and his legacy.

That statement likely meant vault tracks, but to play devil's advocate, "music" doesn't automatically mean vault tracks. Cat could have been referring to remastering previously released tracks (as opposed to re-issuing the original masters on gimmick colored vinyl).

She is referring to what the fans are EMing people like Cat about what we are not getting. It is hardly likely that fans are saying "Please just give us what we already have but remastered and make sure it has nothing from the Vault. We don't want things like "Originals" and the Vault tracks on the SOTT SDE."
