Less than 21 hours to go...

Until it will be exactly 7 years from Prince's death.

On this thread,

tell me about your top 5-10 Prince experiences in your lifetime.

For me:

(1) Montreux Jaxx Festival 2 shows same night in Switzerland, July 18, 2009.

--I was on 2 hits of ecstasy, I got in line at 1pm for the 10pm show. Only the Dutch we're ahead of me. I was 20 feet center from the stage for the first show. Then I took 2 more hits of ecstasy during the break between the shows, waited in the bathroom, and ran in and got front row center for the second show (you can see me on the DVD!)

My highlight that night from the first show: Empty Room guitar solo, I'll never forget Prince' eyes locked on mine and he and I tared int each other's eyes for approx. 45 second during his electric guitar solo

My highlight from the second show: All the Critics Love U In Montreux!!! The energy, the final song before the encore, Renaldo Neto and Prince trading lick for licks... The enitre Stravinski Auditorium was jumpin up and down!!!

(2) Roosevelt Hotel, Hollywood, CA, June 24,2007

Prince was scheduled to play June 23, 2007, but cancelled the show due to the sound not being up to par with his standards. I had 4 tix for $312.10 each for June 24, praying he the Roosevelt fixed the sound issue.

But you gotta come through again like that cause it was the most unbeleivabe night in my entire life. Heck I The show was fantastic, the vibe was out of control--Jessica Biel, Chris Rock, Jessica Alba, Michael Rappaport, Paris Hilton, Nikki Hilton and Quincy Jones were there to name a few. The aftershow is even more amazing as there as were lead to the hotel lobby which didn't have a stage. Meaning, everyone was on ground level. I scanned the setup and there was a empty mic 5 feet stage left. Some godly messenger told me that's the mic Prince will use. I stalked out the spot right in front of tht mic and lo and behold, the band starts playing 'Anotherloverholenyohead' and Prince walks right by me jamming on his guitar until he gets right in front of me behind the mic. I WAS 2 FUCKN FEET FROM PRINCE WITH NO STAGE! He was rocking so hard, I was on 5 hits of ecstasy for this show, and I started swinging punches at Prince right by his ears. He loved it and played his blistering guitar solos harder. After the show, Michael Rappaport, Paris Hilton, Nikki Hilton and Quincy Jones all came up to me and asked me how I knew Prince. I said he was my family. smile But in all honesty, I had only met Prince one time before that, approx 15 year prior.

But the highlight for me, and for the rest of my life, is what happened after the aftershow!

I have always imagined me meeting Prince without actually envisioning it. Meaning, I knew that one day I would have a conversation with him but I never knew how it would happen. I had never wanted to meet him by introducing myself to him in a crowd of people. I mean, what am I going to say to him that he hasn't already heard before. I have had plenty of opportunities to do something like that but I have always said that I have only wanted to meet him if someone introduces me to him. Anyways, the aftershow ended around 4am and me and my wife were drinking at the Roosevelt pool for about an after after the show when we decided to head back to the room. We were a little tipsy needless to say and got a little lost on our way back to our room, and ended up heading towards some parking garage near the back of the hotel. It was 5:30am by now when all of a sudden I notice security guards gathering together and arranging for a Ford Escalade in the parking lot to be brought up to where we were. We go over there to see if Prince is in the Escalade but we don't see him so we start walking back down the hall to go try to find our room when, LO AND BEHOLD, PRINCE IS WALKING DOWN THE HALL BY HIMSELF TOWARDS US TO LEAVE THE HOTEL! My heart starts pounding, my hands get wet, my mind races wondering what I should say. Should I ignore him and walk on by as if he is just another person??? Fuck no! Instead, I approach him with a smile and say, "P, man, unbeleivable show, unbelievable experience. You never cease to inspire me." He slows his walk, looks me straight in the eye and replies, "Thanks man, I really appreciate it."--and stops walking standing right in front of me. I say, P, you wanna party with us? Let me introduce you to my wife--and as I turn to the right to see my wife to introduce her, Prince breaks to the left of me toward the parking lot. Literally, it was like, "POOF!" He diappeared as he continues to walk to his car. Is that it? Am I done?? Fuck no! I quickly run over to the parking lot, and as Prince is getting into his Escalade, I move over to the driveway that leads out of the parking lot so that he'll see me as he leaves the hotel. I stand strong, stick my left arm straight up in the air, clench my fist, smile real wide, and flex my elbow and pump my fist a few times as his car starts to pull towards me. As the Escalade continues to go forward and as Prince comes closer and closer up the driveway in the passenger seat of the Escalade, Prince looks at me, smiles, and waves good-bye to me as he leaves the hotel. Is that an unbeleivable end to an unbelievable night?? It's the small things that make such a difference, right?

I'm tired, so I'll come back to this thread and finish up the deep breakdowns of the following concert I saw:

(3) Hard Rock Cafe, Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas May 30, 2004, Musicology Tour Warmup/Rehearsal

(4) Conga Room, Downtown LA, a Prince Power Trio with him on guitar, Michael B on drums and Sonny T on Bass March 28, 2009, Montreux Jazz Festival Warmup/Rehearsal

(5) House of Blues, Sunset Strip, Holllywood, February 9, 2004 ,Grammy 46th Afterparty

(6) House of Blues, Sunset Strip, Hollywood 3 shows that night, March 25, 2011

Great post. You had me at 'only the Dutch fans were ahead of me' lol

.

Love the fact you seized the moment and approached him after the aftershow. Even though others may not have and it could've went south, sometimes you get one chance and it paid off

OK, I am now ready to finish off what I started!

These are my deep breakdowns of my 3-6 favorite Prince expereinces in my life. (#1-2 are at the top of the thread).

(3) Hard Rock Cafe, Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas Jan. 31 Musicology Tour Warmup/Rehearsal... Prince announces a 3:30am show on Jan 31 at the Hard Rock in Vegas at around noon the day of the show. I happened to be on Prince.org and saw the thread. But I had a big medical board test the next day. So if Prince finishes at 6, and if I were to book a plane for 7am from Vegas to LA hoping to make it back in time for my 8am Medical Board, I would have not studied nor slept before the medical board. But Prince is stronger than an addiction. I got 2 tix, flew out to Vegas. I saw many friends from San Francisco And NY who came out to the House of Blues that I had met the summer before at Prince's house in Chanhassen for his birthday celebration.

I didnt know what to expect. The last show I saw was the One Night Alone Tour in Atlanta in '02. He was heavy on the piano in the ONA show. I like when Prince plays the piano. But I fucking lovvve when he funk rips the guitar strings. At 3:30am there were about a total of 300 people in the bar--super intimate. I was 5 feet from the center of the stage.

And then, THE FUNK DROPPED! Prince had a new sound, different musicians than ONA tour. He replaced Najee with Candy Dulfer and added Chance Phillips and I'm telling Prince knew his career was about to have a resurrection. The crowd was in awe, he was blistering solos like never before, and his interaction with the crowd and band was more funky than I had ever seen up to that point. I said to my buddy, "PRINCE IS BACK". Shortly after he would go on a nation wide tour of arenas for Musicology. I barely caught my flight home, made it to my test, but failed the Medical Board. And I didn't care, because I had just witnessed the purple Yoda at his best! (I would later pass that exam)

4, 5 and 6 to be copleted soon!
