Big Tall Wall in crystal clear quality - Estate hits (& misses) Pinched myself this morning, when I realised I was listening to Big Tall Wall in crystal clear quality...what a way to start a Sunday morning!
As a teenager I used to marvel at all of these amazing but very lo-fi bootlegs all of us had (the amazing mystery and underground quality of them), with titles such as Soulia-Coulia ;o) and Welcome 2 The Rat Race! Ha... but those were great times.
SOTT Super Deluxe set was an undoubted triumph from the Estate, as the 1999 SDE was. Even if I am one of those fans who felt irritated by things like a 7" cut of Crystal Ball being included on SOTT (I mean in what universe...why???) and the Shep Pettibone remix on there (face palm ;o)
The original Joy In Repetition with the slow burn brick-bat intro would have been awesome, and really added...hey ho.
Oh, and another thing - is there actually a case for the '79 demo of Never Take The Place of Your Man being included on a special edition of Dirty Mind? Imagine how cool that would have been, and how well it would have fit. Too late now! LOL
It's also Dreamy frankly to have the likes of In All My Dreams, Wonderful Day et al (again in amazing quality), but there's also a part of me that feels as though the Parade Special Deluxe, if that is a thing, or ever comes to be - has been seriously short-changed...by throwing so many outtakes at the SOTT set. That Revolution era has been seriously plundered already.
What I want (for what it's worth): the original demo of Old Friends 4 Sale, the incredible version of We Can Funk with Miko's solo at the end (in fact that 3 song sequence in amazing quality: Girl O My Dreams, Can't Stop This Feeling I Got...etc). Am hearing a lot of chatter about Evilsdog, which isn't a track i have working knowledge of (strangely).
Lots of hits from The Vault, I think the 1999 SDE set (currently being discussed at length in NYC) is amazing...in some ways it's a more satisfying listen to me - because I learned a lot more (personally) about the music from that period. I'd previously plumbed the SOTT era pretty extensively. I love Yah, You Know, If It'll Make You Happy, Bold Generation, funky version of Possessed...could go on and on.
What are your hits (& Misses)...uh oh, hang I got to go, the Shep Pettibone remix of Strange relationship has just come on... aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh!!!! Baby they can't stand to see us happy, more than that they hate 2 C us sad (The Estate). Ha....

What I want in crystal clear quality is Prince's 1986 demo of "Wouldn't You Love To Love Me" that he gave to Taja Seville. Right now that is probably my holy grail from the vault.

The SOTT SDE is a great golden mine. My only complaints for the SOTT SDE are:

- anything outtakes from 2004-2016

G-Spot Prince vocal (raw demo version) & Heaven are 2 great ones...would love those in pristine quality.

...I'll add Prince's solo version of The Family album tracks...Desire, Data Bank etc.
Would also love those hypnotic rehearsal & soundcheck performances of The Screams of Passion & Noon Rendezvous (the latter goes on for about 17mins!)
Hey, I can dream! LOL | |

. Databank is a The Time track on Pandemonium, not The Family

I still want the second Vanity 6 album with the completed versions of Vanity's *Sex Shooter*, *G-Spot*, *Boy* and *Vibrator*, *Promise 2 B True*, *Moral Majority* and Brenda's *17 Days*. Also the Vanity *Manic Monday* Brenda spoke of in that one interview. V6's *Extralovable* would also be a treat. I'd also love to hear the Hookers demos. Would also love to hear all of P's *Ice Cream Castle* demos. Complete versions of *Kiss Me Quick*, *Cross The Line* and *Evolsidog* would also be nice.

. Except for the concert that runs at the wrong speed, the big book with tons of missing recording info and bad pictures and pointless articles from people who had nothing to do with SOTT,... Also: no First Avenue concert video? It's yet another case of "could and should have been much better".

My most wanted from the Estate right now: We Got The Power Stimulation Good Judy Girlfriend (Prince Vocal) Am I Without You? If I Had A Harem (Basically the whole 1989 RAVE album!!!!)

I would have preferred something more rare and experimental show, like the Munich Madhhouse live with his father and Little Steven. I sought this show out this morning after reading this and… damn! I’m glad I did. Hundalasiliah!

When I read this, I felt it was me myself writing it...i feel the same about pretty much all the points yo made. I have long said the Estate has done a KILLER job on the sound of the releases. The Big Tall Wall on the 1st disc just blew me away ....AWAY. So much in that one song...then his bass playing makes an superbly interesting song, that much better...
As for short changing Parade's eventual SDE release, I am not sure....i think the 1st two SDE releases blew many of our minds with 2nd takes on some songs (How Come U Don't, International Lover, Forevery In My Life, Crucial, Bold Generation) in addition to music we had just never heard like Walk In Glory, Blanche, V&gina, It Be's Like That....
I think we'll be surprised for sure with Parade....we know there is the original Old Friends....some have heard snippets of Sometimes It Snows (diff take) as well as that cool snippe of Evolsidog...they don't have to give us 3 vault discs ...1 super disc of vault treasures may be enough..but I'd bet they could squeeze out two...There Are Others Here with Us, ..
However, I'll say again - I hope they do the following with Parade
1. Remaster of album, 2. vault disc - 15 unreleased songs 3. The Family album remastered- I say this b/c it has that orchestral feel that is Parade, before Parade. 4. Live audio from a show on the Euro tour 5. Blu Ray of one of those shows

The music in the sott sde was great, barring the live show which was a weak example of his best band But agreed, the photos were a waste of space And most of the essays were a waste of even more trees

The wonderboy paris boot captured a brilliant sott show Tragic that the one officially released document of that tour is so humdrum Terrible lack of atmosphere too. Wasted opportunity if there ever was one

I'd really like good quality soundboard recordings of the 1987-88 aftershows and one-offs. Formerly TheDigitalGardener etc.

Ha....sorry LOL! Will stop hatin' on it so much in that case ;o)

I've often lusted after the New Morning Club aftershow in Paris from '87, the one that kicks off with Red House by Jimi Hendrix. And of course the now legendary Holland aftershow from the '88 Lovesexy tour. Trojan Horse etc. New Morning is pretty cool because it always felt very lo-fi and underground...and the version of Rave in the Dutch aftershow is just blistering...as is DMSR. Agree with the comment above also, that maybe just one amazing (and really focused) disc of outtakes from the Parade era would suffice, just gimme the good stuff! T

Yeah, it's cool to have the audience recordings that we have. Better that than not having recordings at all. Imagine how much of a revelation those shows would be recorded from the soundboard though. Formerly TheDigitalGardener etc.

They should have PR the same kind of deluxe edition treatment as they did for 1999 and SOTT... two/three CDs worth of Bonus tracks (whilst there was only one), a large information booklet, photos of the tracking sheets & master reel boxes and whatnot. Would have whet my appetite more that way.
Of all omissions, the original 1983 cut of 'Strange Relationship' being left off the SOTT deluxe is one of the biggest imo. But new, obscure gems like 'It Be's Like That Sometimes' made my day. Would like to hear 'The Dawn' one day, that's my holy grail.
As always, it is all in the hands of the Estate...

This is the mix with the snare drum included, right? I love that version so much and wish he would have put it on the album in that form, though I guess the final mix fits in with the overall weirdness of the album

i dont know why demos from many years earlier are included on albums that those songs were later revamped. eg the early ICNTTPOYM should be on a SDE for dirty mind/prince (whichever), not SOTT.
