What's creepy about that? I would be thrilled if beautiful women posted online that they want to get close to me so that can attract my romantic attention. Do you find it creepy because Prince was married at the time?

She came off stalkery at that time and yes women trying to steal men from there wifes are kind of creepy in my mind.

Did she come across as unhinged ? It's interesting to hear from someone who was there in real time.

Truth be told, Mani aside, for someone so paranoid/cautious, I found Prince to be extremely naive to embark in a relationship with a fan who used to post on forums. He talked to Tavis Smiley about creepy fans who showed up at his his doorstep, he should have known better but oh well it's all in the past.

Considering some of the many rumors around Mani is that she encouraged him to sue the websites and that she encouraged him to divorce Mayte, unhinged is not the word. Ambitious and determined, certainly. She moved to Minneapolis with the goal of working for and eventually marrying Prince and that's exactly what she did.

Yes, and the Org. They probably would've tried to sue AMP if it were possible.

There were various sites loosely connected by what was known as rings back in the day and everyone would have a little banner on their site that would connect all the fan pages together into "rings" - this was not just Prince fans but fan sites in general. And it was known that they would troll the links in the rings to earmark sites to target.

The thought is that this was one way that Mani 1) played into Prince's irritation about his likeness being used inappropriately and 2) obscured her own footprint on the sites (again, barring AMP given it has no moderation and never did).

To be honest, not many of Prince's female "artists/associates/jumpoffs" could sing and/or dance...the ones that could sing, had little to no vocal talent...the ones that could sing a little, couldnt/wouldnt dance

Vanity couldnt sing or dance
Jill Jones couldnt dance
Apollonia (bless her heart) couldnt sing or dance
Carmen Electra couldnt do anything
Susan Moonsie couldnt sing or dance
Wendy & Lisa couldnt sing or dance
Robin Power couldnt rap or sing or dance
Cat Glover couldnt rap or sing
Sheila E couldnt sing or dance
Mayte couldnt sing or rap (and her dancing is overrated)
Suzannah Melvoin couldnt sing or dance
Ingrid Chavez couldnt do anything but poetry
Rosie Gaines wouldnt dance (although i wouldve love to have seen her dressed like Cat Glover while doing Cat Glover dances)

You didn't specify what he wanted Manuela to do on stage, I assumed it was singing. I'm pretty sure he didn't want his wife to shake her ass in front of everyone.

[Edited 2/9/23 16:31pm]

You mean like his first wife? Anyway, he never tried to make Manuela a protege for the reason I stated. This wasn't even an issue when they got married as he knew her before he ended his first one. Any designs on performance she would've had would've come out then. They didn't. He didn't try. That wasn't her lane and he at least respected that much.

I think he wanted this marriage to be different, just for the sake of it being different. Manuela was good at talking and was educated and started working for him at PP doing some sort of humanitariaism and probably talked abut that kind of thing a lot. So he encouraged it. It was all he really could encourage.

Plus, i doubt she has a lick of talent. Maybe a decent singing voice for a "regular" person (I like her speaking voice) but I can't see her moving well and never saw or heard about them even dancing. Maybe this is part of the reason they broke up. I think Prince needed someone to really match that musical thirst in him.

I think with Manuela perhaps he liked the newness of having a girlfriend and then wife who was more
interested in helping behind the scenes with organising things, overseeing the websites, and having a
charitable organisation set up as well as helping out with the love4oneanother charity.

I think that she really did have a mind of her own and that is exactly what attracted Prince for once,
and he left her to do the things she was good at and actually wanted to do.

He was desperate to find something she could do. Remember, the girl made candles.

I wonder if he wrote “U’re Gonna C Me” from “One Nite Alone… Solo Piano & Voice” for Manuela. He wrote it while they were together, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it was about her. Not all of his songs were biographical. Like any author, he created fictional characters and fictional situations. But I’d he did write it for her, then his decision to revisit the song on “MPLSound” would be curious since that was after they divorced.

I think he did, and also Objects in the Mirror".

I think he wrote "Have a Heart" about Mayte.

Susannah comes from a family steeped in music history.

Mayte was a child dancer sent Prince's way by her momager.

Anna Fantastic was 15 when she met Prince. He was writing songs about getting her drunk by the time she was 17. She didn't even exist in the world long enough to have a purpose or goal in mind and she just did whatever the rock star boyfriend wanted her to do (recall the story of Fantasia Erotica).

It's nowhere near a good comparison to Mani who was a college grad.

What's so complicated? She married another guy in music and not once has she appeared on any stage to entertain anybody even though she's buddy buddy with a few folks in that world. Her goal has never been to be on stage unlike others who Prince promoted/dated. Pretty simple conclusion.

The keystrokes? You could've said every woman Prince produced. T'weren't nobody really left off your list except maybe 2.

What is AMP? I've seen it mentioned a few times in this thread. Forgive my ignorance. I didn't become active in the online fan community until he passed. So I've only really been active in the Org. I'm a aware of Housequake and know it shut down its forum, but don't know that backstory.

alt.music.prince

It was a newsgroup where people posted a lot. It was a shit show part of the time. Bart was in full bitch effect there, too.
There was a newsgroup for binary files - alt.music.binaries.prince where people could upload boots, etc.
Many ISP stopped carrying their own access to newsgroups because of Napster and copyright. One usually used an app like Newsbin to grab the binary files, and just a mail app to do the posting on the regular AMP group.

I almost feel like Reddit is what newsgroup people migrated toward once newsgroups lost their popularity.

If you go on Google Groups or whatever, you can still find it. It's all porn spam at this point, but if you dig back to the late 90s and early aughts, there's plenty there.
