Would Prince have done a good Bond song?

In the absence of anything from the Estate, it’s time for another boring thread.

Would Prince have done a good Bond song?

And what existing Prince songs would have made a decent Bond song and made a good Bond movie title.

Old Friends for Sale, maybe?
Pussy Control (movie title, not the song)
Scarlet Pussy. (See above)
Give ‘em what they love might have been ok too.
If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

This question has been asked before at this site.

My answer was "Live For Love" from the Diamonds & Pearls lp.

Good suggestion for a song and Bond title. Just searched. Yes, lots of suggestions for Planet Earth which would be great. Movie would have to be called “in the palm of your hand”

Colonised Mind would be good too.

It wasnt even that long ago! TP will have the link.

Maybe "The Love We Make" or "Strays of the World" or "The Grand Progression" or "The Dance"

The one I found was from 2007. I’m rarely on here anymore though.

The Love We Make is a good shout.

I think you're on the right track with "The Love We Make," although the lyrics would need altering. Unless the Bond movie was about a drug dealer. Because "put down the needle, put down the spoon," doesn't reek of a 007 film.

But I think something dramatic and ethereal like that tracks nicely.

"Live 4 Love" is certainly a bigger contender, but again - some lyrical changes. Also, "Still Would Stand All Time" could be in the running. "Solo" with some Bond strings in it would be great.

Frankly, even "Diamonds and Pearls" could be in there. All that orchestrating feels Bond-esque.

Of course, we're just thinking of existing songs. We don't know what's in the vault or what he would've come up with.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I think Beautiful Strange would make a great tune for the opening score, maybe with slightly different lyrics though.

Good one! Clare or someone could put in some of those Bond-esque strings or orchestration. BOOM.

I don't think any of the Prince songs I've heard would make a great Bond song. The closest to a Bond-sounding song I can think of is Old Friends For Sale. But even then, it wouldn't be ever considered a "good" Bond song.

But I have no doubt that if he'd ever been asked to write a song for a Bond movie then he could have written a great one. But it would have do be something he wrote specifically for the project and not just a previously recorded song.

As a side note, if you ever want to hear a great James Bond type song, look up the song "Snake Eater" from Metal Gear Solid 3. It's the best James Bond song there never was.

idk if he could have done a good one

many good artists have done bad or boring bond songs in recent times

and idk if prince was that good at writing purposely for other peoples projects

it would depend on how much he was into bond i think.

was he a fan?

of the songs that might make you think he could do one, maybe diamonds and pearls like someone else said.

it would have to be something that gets you amped.

or something dramatic.

empty room could work.

It’s a bit random but the U Will B demo with Andy Allo gives me Bond vibes.
Fully produced with strings etc could’ve had potential

im sure if he was picked in the 80s, he could have done a song like duran duran or a-ha did. a sort of epic pop banger.but if he didnt wanna do we are the world, would he have done a bond song? doubtful.

Yeah, Tony Mosley starred in it, wrote the theme tune and sang the theme tune. It was a big in the 90’s between Dalton and Brosnan’s bond’s.

Ah, my mistake. Good that’s cleared up. Now has anyone got the bootleg of the Harry Potter theme by Prince, Warden in the Prison of Azkaban?

I agree; it would make a good fit with that opening sequence. New lyrics also.

I think he would've stepped up to the plate. His work for the Batman movie perfectly captured the mood of the film, so why not a Bond theme? As someone else pointed out, the music for "The Love We Make" has some Bondish melodic intervals.

I would never have thought of Beautiful Strange - but now that I have, you’re absolutely right. In the same vein, When Eye Lay My Hands on U would be a good choice. I can see the Bond title sequences playing over both those songs.
