Gary Holt is a hell of a thrash guitarist & songwriter, I don't listen to metal nearly as much as I did back in the day but I respect him and I'm glad he had some sense about Clapton being an overrated hack

I think Clapton is considered overrated by most guitarists out there.

Yeah, same. I once heard someone say it's physically impossible for Clapton to hit a wrong note. And maybe that's true on some level, but he's not deliverying any amazing solos like maybe Jimmy Page did, or Satriani, or Vai, or whoever. Clapton is a great guitarist, but he'll never be known for his solos.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

He's one of the least likeable of all the guitar greats out there, I'd say.

lol

How could a Prince wanna be... beat Prince?

I got to see Steve Vai in concert once at Red Rocks, he came out wearing a purple skater suit, exactly like the one Dave Chappelle wore in his sketch, frilly shirt and everything. It immediatetly dawned on me, as much as he was trying to imitate Prince... he couldn't come close to the greatest player to ever hold a guitar.

But I give hime props for trying.

LOL OKAY THEN.

But seriously - Steve Vai has not, nor has ever, tried to be Prince. Vai has paid Prince respect over the years. If someone has to tell you that Vai was paying tribute to him or whatever, then maybe it's best to not watch those videos at all. Also, Vai has always had a big edge to the way he dresses in the past, so - draw all the Chappelle show parallels you wish. Doesn't mean they're based in truth.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I saw an article on Neal Schon suing Jonathan Cain (they're the only two originals left) because Cain cut him off from his overt spending with the company (Journey Corp) credit card. Cain calls it "malicious lies" and "extravagant spending."

I just thought - poor Arnell.

Neal's a great guitar player.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Bad idea to have a shared account like that. I would never consent to it.

Well, it's a business. They're business partners, and equal ones. Even Arnell got equal pay and such in the band once they hired him. I think Schon just abused it after a while.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Yep! Cream had some kickass tunes and Clapton was a solid team player within that band, but overall he never did anything that wasn't done better by most of his peers in the 60s and 70s. Sure as hell didn't earn his status as a Guitar Legend or whatever.

Let's not pretend that anyone outside of a very vaunted few actually innovated in that era. He's written some of the best songs ever written and recorded guitar solos that put billions of guitarists dead or alive to shame. We don't need to make shit up just to say you don't care for him.

Jonathan Cain and his wacko wife Paula White are two shady people. She's one of those religious kooks who prayed over Trump in the White House. Pretty sure she's part of the lawsuit too. She's done a lot of disgusting things in her life in the name of religion.

Come on!

Steve Vai is indeed a Prince fan, but he is a monster on that guitar. He is respected by almost every guitar player out there, including some jazz cats. He is a specialist on the instrument.

.

You may prefer Prince´s style of playing, but Steve Vai is a guitar genius.

Comparing guitar players (or sax players, or piano players, or...) on this musical level doesn't make much sense. Each of these people are musical personalities who stand out because of their originality, creativity and unique playing style. A judgement purely only based on technical abilities doesn't make much sense, although male listeners are usualy more impressed by technical fireworks than women.
Is Steve Vai "better" than Jimi Hendrix?
Is Steve Vai "better" than B.B. King?
Ask Steve Vai...

True. I never liked these comparisons too. But sometimes we have to clarify some things
