The album I like most out of these is ATWIAD, but the Parade era outtakes interest me more, and the circulating versions of the extended cuts aren't as pristine as the ATWIAD ones as far as I've been able to discover.

1. Dirty Mind

There’s sooooo much from this era we don’t know about. The Vault has like only 5-6 songs apart from the album we know about. He was recording in a frenzy during this time too. And he wasn’t fussy about production. I would get that there’s at least 20 unknown outtakes from 1979-80.

2. Parade

My God, the known outtakes alone. Plus the live shows during this era were FIRE.

3. Controversy

Throw in a pristine edit of The Second Coming mini-film and the intro song used in the tour and I’ve already laid down my credit card.

4. ATWIAD

Supposedly there are some Sunset Sound live studio recordings from these sessions which are holy relic stays among folks who worked there during this time.

5. For You

Mostly just curiosities I think…

1. Parade (all of the obvious reasons).

2. Dirty Mind (it's a great album and I'm curious about possible unknown outtakes).

3. Controversy (same reasons as Dirty Mind... in fact, these two could go in either order).

4. Around the World in a Day.

5. For You (I'm not big fan of this album, but I nevertheless would love a SDE because I want all of his albums to get that treatment).

EDIT: @ExTAFKASoladeo1, I just realized my list is basically identical to yours, with the same rationales, except I flipped Parade and Dirty Mind.

2) Controversy (maybe they could do something with the 'Second Coming' footage)

3) Parade

4) For You

1) Parade - I prefer ATWIAD as an album, but Parade had a tour, and from all accounts loads of unreleased songs, so we should get a great live disc, and 2 CDs of studio stuff. Also finally the chance to get the extended version of Anotherloverholenyhead which I've never been able to track down.

2) ATWIAD - Fine album, and be nice to get the extended versions of Paisley Park and America on CD.

3) For You - Love the album, and curious to see what else he was working on. Love funky Prince and would imagine there would be loads of that in the archive for these sessions.

First, no complaints b/c the Estate has done a fine job thus far....fine b/c they have released great sets every year and the sets themselves have been so well put together. The care they put into the remasters, the W2A Blu Ray ....superb. the Purple Rain Deluxe was the only 'poor' set and I believe they acknoledged that by not calling it 'Super' only 'Deluxe'.

I think there are some albums that are held together by a sound, a band or something that allows them to be linked. Having said all that, i do not believe the Estate, even at the pace they are going at, will be able to get to all his albums (even if limited to his most 'critical' albums) in the time left for us fans to appreciate and buy...I think they have to consider multi album sets.

What comes to mind immediately is a "The BLack Album / Lovesexy' set where the story of good, then bad can be told. Remaster them... throw in a disc or two of vault material AND then get into the live stuff...video and audio.

They could do a Diamonds and Pearls / prince set as well...the sounds was similar....

I actually believe they could do For You/Prince too.

The main idea is, get the remasters/sets out faster b/c he just has TOO MUCH music to get through. They don't have 25 years to do this...they really have to make good use of the next 5-10.

Why these 5?

"Prince" outsold "For You" by a wide margin but is missing from the 5. It is from the era that all these 5 are from (once again just the early era).

Where are D&P, Symbol, Lovesexy, Batman, Musicology, 3121, Emancipation, TGE, Graffiti Bridge and Come which also all outsold "For You"? Whichever is selected must be commerially viable - the chances of a full set with every album getting the SDE treatment is slim. They have to aim for the big, popular and better known albums. Beyond that perhaps they could aim for sets based on periods of time rather than by specific albums.

That last sentence is key, I think. Not every album really warrants a Super Deluxe Edition. The ones that have already been released are really the only ones worthy of that treatment. From here on out, I think they should release something like a "Prince - The Vault" series. Every 6 to 12 months release a new "volume" of Prince outtakes, with each volume focusing on a set period. So, for example, "Prince - The Vault Vol 1" could go from 1977 - 1982 or something and include all the unreleased material from those years that hasn't already been released on previous sets. Then Volume 2 could continue by covering outtakes from Purple Rain to Sign O the Times and so forth. And maybe have a special edition of each Volume that includes a concert from that period and a bonus live disc for good measure.

And on top of these releases, if there's any more completed but unreleased albums like Welcome 2 America, then by all means release these too.

I was also going to ask why For You was included but not Prince. Prince had one modest hit (I Wanna Be Your Lover), another modest hit covered by Chaka Khan (I Feel For You), and landed Prince an appearance on the popular TV show American Bandstand. Surely it's more well known than For You. It probably has a wider variety of outtakes too, if you include the Rebels sessions.
