Hadn't listened to that track for about 25 years but I just put it on and wow - I'd forgotten how many great tracks there are on that album. Thanks for the reminder.

also listening to "boy's club" now. wondering what the prince vocal version sounds like,
it's such a fun track with lots of little quirky shit going on. love the synths on it

You know, I find that third record to be her best. Yet a couple of the Prince tracks are the weakest on the record. "Boy's Club" and "Love On a Blue Train" are the best of his, as well as "Koo Koo," which is so quintessentially Prince-weird that one can argue against not loving it.

But it's "One Day (Gonna Make U Mine)" and "Pride and the Passion" that are just so basic of tracks. "One Day"'s vocals are warbly and thin. Then you slide into something like "Wednesday Like A River," "Hold Me," and "Fadded Photographs," then "Koo Koo," and those songs are their own EP. 4 great killer tracks back to back to back. A complete beginning, middle, and end, and each their own distinct sound.

The same goes for side two. "Pride and the Passion" is just juvenille. Then you get to a jam like "Boy's Club" with its coy lyrics and weird honky piano fills, and it's a fun romp. The phone call at the beginning throws back to Apollonia 6 or Vanity 6's "If A Girl Answers." The jam continues with "Soul Salsa," "Hon E Man", and "Blue Train." Again, the last 4 songs of side B are their own EP.

I agree. I generally love that album, but One Day is one of the few songs on it I don't like.

You made me put the album on yesterday, while I was working. I'd forgotten what a solid collection of tunes it is! All the Prince-written songs are obviously his, but they're perfectly produced for Sheila's style.

Today I think I'll fire up "Romance 1600". It's been ages since I gave that one a listen, too.

This is my favourite Sheila E album. It felt complete, rather than a collection of tracks. But I think they made a big mistake making Hold Me the lead single ,and then Koo Koo as the second. I think they should have gone with Faded Photographs and Wednesday like a river.

And shout out the the Hold Me B-side, The World is High. Fucking brilliant track, and better than half of the album. Well ahead of it's time for 1986.

The last song really did evoke a lot of 80s music at that point. The album's biggest problem is the simple mismarketing of it.

And honestly, they could've led with "Koo Koo," simply because of the Prince input. Get folks in the door, then shock them with something huge like "Faded Photographs" or "Boy's Club."

I really like this ablum, but I'm not sure it's my favorite Sheila E album. That would be Romance 1600.

I think,after "Hold Me",the singles should have been "Faded Photographs" (with a great video and lots of MTV exposure)....then "Pride And The Passion" and finally,"Love On A Blue Train".

That's four strong singles right there,imo.

The Time's first album got an official remastered and expanded edition release. I assumed that more would come, either more Time albums or a Sheila album.

I'm surprised we've not seen any more. Seems odd that they did just one album. If that had been the plan all along (to do just one album), I figured they would have picked a more commericially successful one, such as Ice Cream Castles or Glamorous Life. Perhaps the plan had been to do more, but the remaster The Time didn't sell well enought? Or perhaps the new leadership of the Estate scraped those plans?

Yeah, it was remastered on CD in 2015, then remastered and reissued/expanded in 2021 (the red vinyl release).
