i love lemon crush

i had no idea that was cringe

lol

batdance is immense too

my name is prince is kinda cringe but i think i even like the tony m rap

id actually say sexy mf is now cringe track too

They are both cringe songs, but for me, the difference is that I can secretly listen to and enjoy My Name is Prince (even Tony's rap), but I get nothing out of Sexy MF.

sexy mf is basically james brown made into a novelty song.

good guitar solo from levi though.

now i think of it, musicology wasnt a very good song either (i mean i like parts of it, but as a song as a whole? nah). the work was a bit better. so maybe prince's straight forward JB tributes suck in general.

Actually the more I think about the more I realize there are a few more songs I need to add.

Big tall wall for exemple. I find the subject matter cringe and even the chorus. I would never play it for people to hear but I like it.

Both versions have cringe moments in the lyrics but the original feels a bit more playful in it's toxicity.

Yup, anytime you can come up with a rhyme that's literally never been used before (I'm assuming), that's pretty special.

I like I Wanna Melt With U, but I can understand why people think it's cringe-worthy. It was the generic, cliched EDM of the 90s. It's the type of song that in the twenty-tens people would have blamed on Josh Welton.

I also like I Rock, Therefore I am, and I don't mind the rap.

Why do you think Life Can Be So Nice is cringy? I think the music is amazing.

I'd love for you to point to any song that sounds like IWMWU. Since it's cliche, you'll have an easy time providing plenty examples. razz

It sounds inspired by Too Funky by George Michael, to me. And according to princevault, it was registed with the LOC in July 92. Too Funky was released in June 92. Things that make ya go hmm
Maybe it was a lil payback for I Want Your Sex.

I Love U in Me is definitely cringey, but a ton of fun in the right mood. Some of the most (inadvertantly) hilarious lyrics ever. Not just "when she making love it's like surgery," but also "I promise myself not to come until she does / and she took both hands and a liar I was / no man in this world could ever hope to last / when my baby down shifts / and starts pumpin fast." Maybe if this was a fast Prince song a la Jack U Off it would really work. But it sounds like a Michael Jackson soundtrack song for a kid's movie with these cheesy porno lyrics thrown on top. And Prince sounds like he's on the verge of crying. What makes it cringe is that it sounds entirely sincere. But it always makes me laugh at how crazy it is.

I also think "The Everlasting Now," while a great groove, is so cringey when the chorus line is "Accurate knowledge of Christ and the Father will bring the Everlasting Now." Hearing "accurate knowledge" as a chorus is so bad it makes me wince.

Or chanting "theocratic order." Or "Abraham Lincoln was a racist."

I think that's a fucking amazing song. Not cringy at all. It was Prince in his early 30s, taking his sex game to a new level during that time.

For me, these aren't cringy but people seem to hate them so fuck you to whoever does. LOL

The Arms of Orion

I Love U In Me

Escape

I Rock, Therefore I Am (I cut the rapping out and it's so much better)

I still dislike "Life Can Be So Nice," but it's grown on me a tad. So - I'm still embarrased for Prince that it exists.

Hard disagree regarding Life Can Be So Nice. Unconditional love for that song.

I remember Peach & Black podcast saying that it’s quite a feat to make the line ‘Accurate Knowledge of Christ and the Father will bring the Everlasting Now’ so catchy, but he did it. It’s in the same league as rhyming Delores with Brontosaurus - sometimes you have to commend the audacity. ‘Round the pole see her big butt twirl’ is a far cringier lyric from the same song.

just realised that dinner with a delores line is a fat shaming one ('like a brontosaurus, she was packing it in'). if you see who prince dated, and how cat and sheila got fined for any tiny weight gain, i guess that is no surprise.

I thought it was just Mayte who got fined for gaining weight.

Also, what about his line in "Gett off' :"I like em fat".

He might have dated them petite because he was petite himself (a bigger woman would break him in two), it doesn't mean that's his initial preference. He was said to like Chaka khan and she's pretty hefty.

the gett off line was a james brown quote (from mother popcorn: Some like 'em fat and some like em tall/Some like 'em short/Skinny legs and all/I like 'em tall/I like 'em proud). he likes chaka in the 70s. she was not hefty back then. im not saying he only liked one type, he def liked curvacious, not skinny, but he didnt like 'big'. i was just messing around anyway, i forgot the line is actually about a dinner isnt it, and someone eating a lot. so mavybe not fat shaming, more appetite-shaming razz

No doubt the P Control chorus is cringey, I wouldn't be keen on playing it in front of people, but I do love the verses.
.
He was the king of cringe with different levels to it. Sometimes you couldn't tell if he was serious or taking the piss. And he could have a weird sense of humour at times like talking about his mother sending him the shop for tampons
