Lovesexy Tour

Sometimes Prince was playing with the blue cloud, and other times the peach. Is there a difference in tone, etc,. Or was it purely aesthetics??

Aesthetic, both of the guitars used to be an original white cloud but repainted blue and peach and those were identical (exept for the first prop built for the Purple Rain movie, that one had a thicker neck and is now yellow and hanging at the Smithsonian.)

I wonder what he used his thumb for like that. I forget if Prince was self taught. That's the only way I can imagine he didn't learn to keep his thumb behind the fretboard rather than literally over it. Especially with a super thin neck like the clouds have.

You KNOW you can't get that funky sound without muting those fat strings! biggrin

Plus, there's the Hendrix relation.

Is that what he's doing - muting what looks like at least the E but maybe also the A? For what, just to make sure he can shred without letting a low note ring out? Interesting.

And yes, Hendrix made fantastic use of his thumb across the A:BAL album. I guess I would just have to hear what P was playing in that clip and maybe it would make sense.

Interesting. My Mad Cat has a skinny neck, I'll see how it feels. I was always taught to keep that thing propped up on the neck and never let it creep into the fretboard. If I could always use my thumb, it would make playing much easier I think.

Hey, Love G!

I play bass!

But, try it with your 6-string, it could elevate that plateau biggrin

Perhaps it alternated depending on what he was wearing. He was, after all, very fashion conscious.

I use my thumb for the lower E string and muting.

At the Lovesexy shows I've been to he mostly played the Blue Angel and the Hohner and for some songs leter in the set the peach one but that was mostly random and it seems not planned.
But at all shows I've seen he used the Model C guitar for Anna Stesia.
