"I know your kind like the back of my hand" and other misheard lyrics

it's about time for another one of these isn't it? razz wink

the one I always misheard and still can't un-mishear is the line in Telepathy:

"I know you kinda like the back of my hand"

eek

of course the correct one is "I know your kind like the back of my hand".

also, what is the correct line in Glasscutter?

"Tits about as hard as arabian math" or "It's about as hard as arabian math"

hmmm

A bit embarrassing but when I first listened to New Power Generation I misheard the line "Your old fashioned music, your old ideas" as "Your old five years".

Given that "Fashion" and "Five Years" are David Bowie songs, I was extremely confused as to why Prince would be dissing on David Bowie until I looked up the actual lyrics lmao

We used to read a lot more into his music sometimes than there was lol

by the way "Five Years" is one of the most amazing songs ever recorded! bow

also, I think I just now at this exact moment realised, for the first time in over 30 years,
that "A land of sinaplenty" means a land where there was plenty of sinning.

shocked

I don't know why but I always tought of it as the name of a land of candy and lemonade,
probably because orange fizz is called Sinas over here and my juvenile brain made that
connection back then. Never revised that until now.

doh!

Oh wait I'm dumb, I swapped them and thought you meant "kinda like" was the real lyric. Okay whew.

To this day, the only lyric issue I have is Jam of the Year.

"With the groove of a baby's heart" is written in the official lyrics as "When the groove rubber baby's hot." So, clearly I was way off.

ah yes. an easy 'mistake' to make there though since 'groove of our/her baby's heart' makes so much
more sense than the weird 'groove rubber baby's hot'.

perhaps they changed the lyrics in the booklet at the last minute?

.

I still don't understand Morris in Purple Rain when he says, "stick around a while, see how it's done" or "stay around?"

The first half I never, ever knew until subtitles.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

What about the enternal debate over the lyrics of Xtralovable? "If ever, whenever..." Really? How many people can clearly hear that? I'm also never sure if he's singing "Call me up, it's free," or "Call me up, and scream."

And in Bold Generation, I can't hear him sing the actual word "bold". To me, it sounds like he says "We are the Go Generation".

For years I thought in Head he was singing ‘I was no martial art’ instead of ‘I was so nonchalant’

My ex:
"Every time I comb my hair
Hock a loogie in your eye"

She called it the "Hock A Loogie" song before she recited the lyrics because I had no idea what song she was referring to.

In Bob George, I never knew it was "All you do is suck up food and heat."
For some reason, I thought it said, "Nothing to do, you stuck up fool and.." I didn't know what the last word was. It didn't matter when I was liosynching

I remembered one:

Girl you gotta take me for a little ride
Up and down, in and out, around your legs

I mean, it made sense at the time and I think it still does.
