Time To Throw In The Towel On 2022?

It's late late in the game to announce another Prince music release. Not even "Crystal Ball"? rolleyes

there are quite a few boots out there in not such great quality .. eye had deleted them waiting for the Parade deluxe and whatever else awaits .. hoping that their versions would be better than what is circulating .. but now eye have recollected them as eye am losing faith that the estate is gonna realease anything cool again .. made a couple mixtapes for listening ... seems like the estate likes to use mp3s as source material anyway so the idea of an upgrade is lost as well .. maybe in a couple years we will get another sweet pile of outtakes .. they seem to think prince fans are teenagers who need to save for years to buy the SDE .. yeesh

supply chain blah blah, D&P deluxe on horizon blah blah blah.

It's all lame is what is. Then someone'll come in and say we "really had" x amount of releases because some vinyls got re-released. Estate needs to put together another NPG Music Club.

is there a complete list of these? "Velvet Kitty Cat" was the original MP3 sourced debacle pretty sure, like 1-3 on SOTT deluxe, maybe the acoustic "I Feel for You" or something (or not?)?

Out of all the estate fumbles these transcodes are the most egregious.

For marketing purposes, they like to announce albums well in advance of their release date. With that being the case, I believe we're past the point there they could announce a release for 2022.

And yes, this is where people point out all of the vinyl reissues that came out this year They don't count. I don't need yet another copy of a song I already have, especially if it's not remastered.

As for the estate liking to source stuff from mp3s, I think that's a bit unfair. I give them the benefit of the doubt that their prefence is always to use the orginal tapes and use mp3s only as a last resort when the tapes aren't available.

well the mp3s are not widespread but the fact remains there are several boots that simply sound better than the remastered compressed tubby versions on the SDE .. SDE should be an improvement both in fidelity and mastering and the results are mixed .. still a fun listen and anything unheard before no matter what the quality is a treat .. but a high quality solo release of some great sounding outtakes would be the way to go instead of burying gems with oddball inconsistent sounding tracks on the end of an album we already have that now sounds worse

Remember, everyone: At the time the estate was settled, Sharon Nelson said (paraphrasing) "whatever has been announced is now off the table".
That's worrisome for the D&P, the Netflix doc, etc.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

On the one hand, I certainly understand the new people running the show must have their own vision. The shouldn't be tied to what the old crew was working on.

But with that said, I certainly hope they wouldn't reject the in-the-works projects simply because they weren't their ideas. Moreover, there was obviously time and money spent putting together those SDEs together. They're flushing that money down the toilet if abandon them.

I have thrown in the towel altogether for months now! Hardly listen to any Prince stuff. I just need a prince song to come out and kick me up the behind to get me going again.

The only things that seem to come out every now and then are *useless* vinyl re-releases in every color of the rainbow. I don't need this stuff, since I already have all the original vinyl releases (which are never listened to because cd is preferred). We need SDEs on cd!! ATWIAD, Parade, Lovesexy are waiting...

Queen just announced a big-ass SDE of their 1989 "The Miracle", that goes on sale in the middle of November. So about five weeks from announcement to release.

.

So, it's *possible* there could be news... but it's looking unlikely.

I think it's safe to say that there won't be any SDE this year and I'm not sure there will be any next year either. It seems like the new estate has other plans.

one thing that ticks me off is when I see all these other artists and bands (Queen,David Bowie,Paul McCartney, etc) constantly releasing new box sets on a regular basis. There is no reason why Prince's massive catalog and vault shouldn't be treated the same way.

I've given up on the estate altogether. They've made it clear that they're not interested in sharing Prince's large collection of unreleased music so much as milking previously released material for as long as they can, with colorful vinyl variants and remasters/upscales of poorly recorded live material from decades ago.

Why bother giving us more super deluxe releases or never before heard albums, when they can just trot out Purple Rain or 1999 for the millionth time on "exclusive" purple swirled vinyl? Or maybe some lavish satin bedsheets adorned with the Love Symbol, for the upper-middle class fans with lots of disposable income but little interest in actual music?

If they haven't already, I fully expect these clowns to try and cash in on the TikTok craze sometime next year.

If they have a different vision, I'm open to hearing it. What is they plan to sell in place of SDEs? If it's something like an online subscription service, great. If it's just re-releasing '80s material in gimmick formats (sparkly vinyl), not thanks. Whatever it is, why don't they announce their plans? They're going to miss the holiday shopping season.

Id also like the chance to buy purple rain again but this time be able to choose from different shades of purple. It must be ten different purples so i can really get the right purple i think prince was going for. Id also like to be able to buy flowers like those on the album cover inna deal between the estate and florists. Until that happens i dont think i will be happy.

Well I agree on that but also the artists mentioned have bigger followings. As big as PRINCE is/was I cant lump him in with these artists mainly because PRINCE never was about putting out everything he had. QUEEN oddly and to their credit hasnt had Freddie Mercury for 31 years and they are bigger now than they were then, especially in AMERICA. THey have not flooded the market with stuff, they often in their later years took breaks between albums, also they didnt have a ton of stuff, as Brian May said there is very little "unheard" queen work. Their label has taken care of the catalog, remasterd albums put together LIVE stuff repackaged alot of collections as "new" collections, but they are far from having a vault. "The Miracle" set that Queen are issuing is not loaded with unheard stuff, a few songs here and there but ALOT that is on this set, has been heard before just now its all lumped together, many Bsides and mixes were all out there, so this is not any different than any of the PRINCE SDE. As for McCartney he is still alive and well, and we cant forget part of the biggest artists ever that to this day are big with their issues. Also McCartney owns everything, he has a team that follows what and how he wants things released, very similar to what Lennons estate and Harrison do, and also Ringo has suddenly began opening the floodgates especially with RSD releases. As for BOWIE he is an enigma, but he has a broader reach than Prince did, a much loyal following, so many different stages of his career, also he has a family mainly his wife doing this, not a team or hired hands, she is the center and everything goes through here, I mean some have wanted access to Bowies stuff and she already has shut down some attempted projects or denied music to be used.

Netflix paid big money for that documentary; is the "new" estate prepared to repay the Netflix investment? The amount is not known but they paid dave Chapelle $24 MILLION for one show. One.

After hearing statements from Sharon Nelson, I understand why Tyka sold out to Primary Wave - giving PW 50% power over everything. They can fight with those old "heirs (SNJ coalition)" who barely knew Prince and would want to destroy his earlier works.
