what songs do you hope he covered and are in the vault?

there are too many to mention really.

but lately I've been hoping so bad that he recorded a cover version of "Joey" by Concrete Blonde.

it somehow sounds like one of those rocky tracks that prince liked and I know he would have been
able to do a rocking cover, slightly tweaking it to his sounds even more.

obviously it would have been titled "Mayte" in his cover version.

what do you think? "Mayte I'm not angry anymooooooore...." - guitar solo. eek guitar

cool

and also tell me what cover song you hope will be uncovered in the vault in the future.

If he did a version of Bad that would be worth a listen, even/especially for the comedy value.

It was reported he was doing Beatles covers, I would like to hear those. Any Hendrix covers, if he ever covered Elvis's Suspicious Minds, would love to hear that too. I know he played around with covering some Talking Heads / Tom Tom Club in rehersals at times, which would be cool.

He did a cover of Hendirx's Red House. Prince renamed his version Purple House. It's been officially released (on a Hendrix tribute album), so you should be able to find it.

Most of his jam sessions with artists that would come by Paisley would have been covers. Did Lenny say they wrote music together? I can see that being a collection of good covers instead.

Both Lenny and P stated that Lenny does appear on at least one album uncredited. I think I recall The Gold Experience being one possibility. But I'm sure there's a lot more!

Totally, I have that one, have a few covers from bootlegs going back to 87', where he does Red House with an amazing held note during the guitar solo. But, I was more referring to studio versions.

Red House on the tribute album is a studio version.

Yes , correct, Purple House (Red House cover) is the studio version on the Power of Soul tribute album, I was talking about the actual cover of Red House live in 87' in my follow up comment.

Yeah, his live versions differ a bit, but I like them a lot, I think there might be 4 Hendrix covers he would do live, Red House/Purple House, Villonvia Junction, Spanish Castle Magic, Machine Gun, but if there were studio versions of Machine Gun or any Band Of Gypys covers, I'd love to hear them!

Lenny has posted a photo of a cassette he claims is an entire album worth of unreleased material.

I'm surprised he never did "Are You Gonna Go My Way" since Kravitz said it was about Jesus Christ, and Prince claims "Let's Go Crazy" about God and the devil. Seems like sister songs.

Squeeze - Coffee In Bed

Simple Minds - Sanctify Yourself

The Brecker Brothers - East River

Ides of March - Vehicle

Deep Purple - Stormbringer

Beatles - Can't Buy Me Love

Cardigans - Lovefool
U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I remain utterly convinced to this day that back in the earth 2000’s there was a report from a serious music journal (Rolling Stone, NME etc) that a release of an album of Beatles covers was imminent yet there is absolutely nothing online to back this up. I can vividly remember reading it though at my office desk, is it something I’ve dreamt or does anyone else recall this?

Interesting choices. I just made a little playlist of this and enjoyed it a lot during my morning coffee.

I wonder what prince could have made of "Lovefool" though. That's the only one I'm scratching my head about.

Lenny is on "Dolphin" and "Billy Jack Bitch".

I think he might also be somewhere on the Rave album, but that's just speculation.

I also guess prince returned the favour and is somewhere on one of Lenny's albums.

From what I recall... Lenny appear uncredited on Billy Jack Bitch on Gold Experience!

I rediscovered both "civil war" and "you could be mine" this year, hadn't thought about them
in a decade or so. Man those are good songs.

I just feel like he would've made it a fun song, maybe had a girl sing it.

I tried to pick songs I really thought he'd be able to do his way and have it be significant.

I can also, cringewise, see him changing U2 to "I Finally Found What I Was Looking For."

"Stormbringer," "Vehicle," and "East River" are right up his alley. I mean, the dude has covered Led Zeppelin for heaven's sake.

I actually believe "Can't Buy Me Love" and "Delirious" would've made a good medley. They're both upbeat, poppy.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I don’t know about that but Prince has covered the following songs by The Beatles in concert: ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’, ‘Come Together’, ‘The Long And Winding Road’, ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’. ‘Day Tripper’ is the only cover version known to have been recorded in the studio (in late 1989 at Paisley Park during sessions for sessions for the Flash album.
