1999 - Edited?

I was talking to a couple of Orger friends outside of here. (One will post soon about the 1999 vault material vs. other material).

The other Orger friend mentioned how he took all the 7" edits from 1999 and made them into it's own album. He said, "I listened to the edited 1999 version (7” edits only) and it’s a fucking great album that way. Prince always kept the longer versions for the 12” and this way it felt like a classic album. Don’t get me wrong, I love the original album, but sometimes it’s too much and this is quite interesting alternative."

So, I took to Amazon Music, and my a 1999 Edited playlist. It's 45 minutes versus the 70 minute regular album.

I did make one other adjustment. When I grew up, "Free" was after "D.M.S.R." on the cassette. So that's how I'm still used to hearing it. So I moved "Free" into that spot. I kept the album versions of "International Lover" and "Something In The Water," because there is no other version, and the latter is only 4 minutes anyway.

I'm wondering your thoughts on hearing the more succinct version of 1999, forgetting the extended portions of the songs, and just getting to the meat of it all.

I did this when the super deluxe was released.

I agree it's a really good listen. I did it for when I don't have time to listen to the full album but am I a 1999 mood.

I only used 7inch edits. So Something in the water and International Lover aren't on my playlist.

Cool Idea. Also, outside the US 1999 was sold as a single album and in 2 volumes.

I think there are at least: 8 variations of 1999 over the years...

2LPs *Sold together*
Cassette *with Free Moved in the sequence to balnced out side lenghts
CD *without DMSR

CD *With DMSR

Single LP

Vol 1

Vol 2 (sold separately)

Super Deluxe.

(and a maybe 9: 8- track with altered sequence or maybe some songs cut into parts?)

I like the idea and created a spotify playlist with the edits and will listen to it. Is there a reason that ' Let's pretend we're married' is not included in the playlist you provide. There is also an edit for this song.

It's in there, my friend. Right where it always is, after "Delirious." I went song by song and added it.

Not showing up for me either. It goes straight from Delirious to DMSR

I'm looking right at it. So... maybe just make your own playlist? It's there for me.

I listened to the playlist today in my car and really liked it! I think I would only include the longer version of 1999 instead of the edit which ends too abruptly.

I don't know if the whole album is available on Amazon Music, or it's only for Amazon Music Unlimited. The latter is a paid service that opens up more songs to stream on the service. The former is quite limited. So - maybe that's it?

I'll delete the song from the playlist and re-add it, just to see if that fixes it.

I can see it, but I can't play it. I'm just a basic Amazon Music subscriber, not Amazon Unlimited... which explains why I can't play it.

It's interesting that some people aren't seeing it. It doesn't make sense, but I believe they're sincere. Odd.

That's why, then.

I actually only have Unlimited until November. I bought a Ring Door Bell and I got 4 months free of Unlimited.

But we all own the stuff, so it's easy to do on our own devices.

Whew, lawd, I am glad we have pulled through and seen the epic finale to LPWMgate. I was on breath was baited, hunny.

So anyway, what else is going on? All edits? I'm sick to my stomach. If I don't have the experience of slowwwly rolling up the windows just as the guitar solo in Automatic kicks in, then I don't feel I get the true 1999 experience.
