Prince asked Susan Rogers what single should be released from SOTT (next), and she proposed 'If I Was Your Girlfriend' (if i'm correct on this one)...
I remember her telling it somewhere in a podcast, she said afterwards that she regreted that choice for the reason it was fantastic as a song, but not fit for radio or charts or something in that fashion...
You are correct. I've also heard Susan tell that story as well.
yep. I wonder why Adore was abandoned as a single release because it seems that one was really close to be a single with him haveing that 20 (or 14) minute overdubbed rehearsal version ready for a 12" release.
[Edited 8/11/22 5:56am] He did that a fair amount, no? Proposed single releases that never came out? I reckon he envisioned Purple Music as a single too, and The Question of U was originally going to lead GB. |

There's a 12" (test) presssing from '82 with the version on it that was released on 1999 SDE that was mentioned years ago so I would guess it would have been a one off release back then.

Yeah and didn't he want Shockadelica as a one off too? I think he got excited about new tracks often, but received plenty of pushback about releases beyond just "not so many double and triple albums a year." |

I think he wanted Shockadelica rushed out ASAP to annoy Jesse Johnson.

These epecially the one with the normal vocals would have been a fantastic inclusion on the Sign Sde. [Edited 8/12/22 9:08am]Something BIG Is Coming. |
