The Blu-Ray. Is the video dark on your set-ups? My machine and TV are both within three years old -- and I can barely see the band members unless there's a bright spotlight. Is THAT how they "fixed" it?

It's always been a very dark and grainy recording. The blu ray really isn't that good, but there is not much you acn do with the source material. Only the close ups are good (but I would say still dvd quality, not HD) but when the camera zooms out the picture is horrible.

Just like the white winged dove...

I can not be the only one who disagrees with the bio they gave with this release:

“ James Brown had the Apollo. Jimi Hendrix had Monterey Pop. And Prince had Syracuse…”

Sure this became a huge thing with the live broadcast,
But i’d say Prince had MONTREUX!!…. For 2009 and 2013 !

I. CAN'T. STOP. WATCHING. IT.

I expect people to shit on it, as if some yahoo at home can do better. OKAY THEN, KAREN. Keep reading your online copy of Wired or Sound and Vision and have a seat.

Anyway...

I got my copy today. I really wanted to get to "Baby I'm A Star" for some reason. It was always to clanky and weird before. It feels like a full-on jam now.

I still skip past the 2nd half of "How Come" and "God." It's blathering and doesn't age well.

Someone noted in an article how there are all these great moments in the show. Even the flowers falling at the beginning mimic the album cover with the flowers on the floor. Sorta hard to tell where that spiral stairs comes from for "When Doves Cry" but it's fun that it's there.

I never knew he said, "timbale in here, kick drum, HUH." I thought it was "Too malley in here..." whatever the fuck that was supposed to mean. lol

Never heard the "BOOM" when the extended part of "1999" kicks in.

The haze of purple and such just before "Do Me Baby" and the optics during "The Beautiful Ones" are clearer.

To see the audience's pure joy during "Take Me With U," and frankly the smile on Prince's face as well is mesmerizing. Even the people on the sides and up above - they're all on their damn feet! They're on it during "Baby I'm A Star," too. Usually certain sections end up sitting down. These folks did not. It was pure joy on all parts.

Prince may have gone crazy after show seventy-five, but it didn't show up here.

Yes, you can only do so much with source material, but for anyone who says this bluray is terrible, is expecting some 8K wonder, or thinks it's no better than the VHS - sell your copy and find a new hobby. The rest of us are riding this fucking wave to the glorious end.
Welcome 2 the dawn, bitches.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Montreux 2009 was a truly great performance. Maybe if he had released it, then it would have had more visibility. But he didn't.
