More love for analysis and panels by De Angela Duff and collaborators

With all the wild sources and non-sources used on this site, I wonder why there is so little reference to the great work being done by De Angela Duff and at the symposia that she organizes. She’s had some amazing people at these events and brought a lot of great insights, along with the occasional less interesting stuff. The latest one that surprised me is the lack of interest in the aftershows video by Arthur where he breaks down the source of Small Club among other topics.

See here for Lovesexy aftershows and especially go to 15 minutes for Small Club explanation of how we got the tapes (I had the wrong link before) https://youtu.be/AtrbMJXWUmg
And https://prince.org/msg/7/468933

Why do her videos get so views?
And what do y’all think of them?

a lot of acaemic writings on pop music are quite dull, dry, fun-sapping, and just ppl with an axe/personal polemic to grind (eg daphne brooks).

that said, ill give this a try.

Do you think just reading the word “academic” in a topic like this will turn off some people?

The SOTT Super Deluxe and Lovesexy panels that they did were amazing, especially with all those guests. My favorites are the virtual panel with Dr. Fink, Atlanta Bliss, and Eric Leeds for SOTT and in person panel with Cat Glover, Dr. Fink, and Ingrid Chavez for Lovesexy. The energy and insights were great.

I had the wrong link in the first post. I fixed now so that it goes directly to the aftershows presentation instead of the most recent video.

I deleted “academic” from the subject line and still not much interest it seems. I don’t get it. Oh well. These forums are right up there with Peach and Black for my favorite online discussions of Prince and his music. I’ll keep on enjoying them.

Thank you so very much, controversy99, for the purple love! I really do appreciate it.

In the words of Prince from his 1995 MTV interview, "I'm just trying to do my best and if somebody" digs it then I am truly grateful.

My goal is threefold is to give back to Prince in my own small way, to help keep Prince's name on the lips of the children, and to highlight diverse voices and perspectives of Prince's ENTIRE catalog!💜

I used to worry about views and listens when I was doing the Prince podcasts for Grown Folks Music, but I let it go. I couldn't figure it out either...

As far as the YouTube videos, with the exception of the two done in person, the Lovesexy symposium (which was livestreamed simultaneously in real-time) and the Batdance symposium (which I couldn't livestream due to costs), the virtual symposia have all been done on closed platforms (Hopin and Airmeet, specificially). I later upload the video archives to YouTube after the fact. So those aren't the real-time views on YouTube, only the views of the archives I uploaded. However, even as archives, they are still pretty low compared to other Prince content.

However, the non-symposium events such as the Sign O' The Time Super Deluxe Celebration and After Salons, etc. were all streamed directly to YouTube and sometimes to Facebook simultaneously. Those numbers are higher because the bulk of the views are the real-time views.

The video archives of all the Prince symposia and other events can be viewed on my youtube channel, https://www.youtube.com/c...shedsolid.

At the end of the day, it's about Prince, and not about me. So, I'll keep doing my best for him to give reverence to all that he did for us, regardless of whether others notice or not wink

Sincerely,

De Angela AKA polished solid

P.S. The email that's tied to my original prince.org handle, deangela, is no longer so I can't reset the password. So, I created a new one just to respond to your kind words, controversy99! Thank you, again!

De Angela - I sincerely appreciate all the work that you and your 'crew' do to make these symposiums happen. When I can, I participate during the live events, otherwise I view on your YouTube Channel (thank you for uploading those too).

It was wonderful to briefly meet you at Gluek's in June and thank you in person.

Thank you, SBartist, for your kind words! Likewise! It's always a great time at Gluek's with Paisley Five & Dime! I was thrilled that Celebration resumed, this year! I missed going to Paisley Park the past two years!
