I just love how so many people ignore the experience of some chick who actually went through something similar when she was young. Seriously, Fuck this B.S.

Has anyone actually listened to the podcast? What do both of these women say?

Anna says she lied about her age when she first met Prince, that nothing happened on that first night, that they talked until six in the morning and slept in separate rooms. She also mentions that she had already done a photoshoot for Playboy in Europe before she and Prince became an item, and that she feels that she was taken advantage of by companies and people in the business, but not by Prince. Make of that what you will.

Hmmm....it's a tricky one, isn't it? Prince's music is part of my DNA at this point in my life. Most everyone I know knows what that music means to me but How does one handle this information if it's true that he groomed this woman? Do I just stop listening to his music? What does everyone do when they hear an Ike and Tina Turner song?

We also have to accept that R Kelly is sick yet millions of people still listen to his music. I never liked R Kelly's music in the first place. It's awful. Somewhere on YT, Jerry Seinfeld talks about how he can still listen to old Bill Cosby records and justify why they are still funny to him.

It's not tricky for me. Anna makes it clear that she doesn't feel that she was groomed. At what point do we choose to disbelieve a supposed victim's own testimony? When it exonerates rather than incriminates?

Hoo boy, can't wait to see how some of the fans on here try to spin this. What Prince did to Anna and Mayte was pretty much textbook grooming. Doesn't matter that you like his music, doesn't matter that he wasn't as horrific as people like R. Kelly or Epstein, it was still wrong and really fucking creepy. The legality of him (allegedly) waiting until they were 18 to do anything doesn't make it better.

I love Prince's music as much as anyone else here, but you've gotta recognize the dude's shortcomings instead of sweeping them under the rug.

A dose of sanity would be ace.

I've heard that insanity is defined by repeating the exact same thing expecting different results. If I had a dollar for every time this "argument" came up online, using the exact same words and criticisms, I'd travel the world in luxury. It's literally beating a dead horse at this point. Hence I'm really curious what folks expect fans to do about it. Either you keep listening to his music or you don't.

No one has yet to explain, why the intimacies and sex life of another man, whom most of you NEVER KNEW PERSONALLY, and obviously never will, is so important that you need to investigate, speculate, or get to the bottom of it...if Prince were alive today and you were fortunate enough to be in his presence, yall cowards wouldnt discuss this stuff with him or say this stuff to his face, without getting physically removed by security, or by him personally...some of yall are backstabbing cowards for real...and i have some pretty good ideas on why yall act this way towards Prince...someone says a disparaging word about Wendy & Lisa's music and some of yall cry foul, calling it racist, misogynist and hateful, etc...but skip to the next thread and the SAME certain people are comparing Prince to Weinstein and RKelly...Prince has never been charged or accused of anything that those 2 have...the mere fact that yall cant see this blatant hypocrisy, speaks loudly about some of yalls severe emotional and mental shortcomings

You summed it up again. It's the same mf's attacking over and over but god forbid you refuse to stand by and let the lies go unchallenged. Any of you Gods of fairplay planning to attack Elvis, Bowie, Steven Tyler, Jimmy Page, Ted Nugent, Paul Walker, Jagger or any of the other ... uh ...well... you know ...non Prince looking guys that have had confirmed relationships with under age girls (some as young as 13)? Hell Bill Wyman gets with a fucken' 14 YEAR OLD!!!

Its funny how so many were around PRINCE or said they were, and then there were people that were around PRINCE the most in the last two decades of his life, one being Morris Hayes, and yet most say they never saw any of these people around Prince. So was PRINCE grooming a young female to be his wife, who knows, maybe yes, this seemed to be what him and Mayte were, and yet she has stated the simplicity of all their contact and respecting of her age and waiting till she was 18 to work with her. Are we ever going to know what PRINCE did, how many women in his life, who did this or that, who wrote this, or better yet who did he write this for, at this point the man is gone now, he has been gone over 6 years case closed

I can assure you the people who don't like Prince's relationships with teen girls feel the same way about those dudes as well. I know this is a crazy concept but maybe we're talking about Prince because... we're on the Prince forums? Hard concept to grasp, I know. Also I'm perfectly fine with not hooking up with teen girls myself because I'm not a fucking creepy predatory pervert.

Gosh your such a deep thinker. Your right it is a Prince site ... so why are the loons in here mentioning Weinsten, R.Kelly, Epstein in the same breath as Prince?? Why is his sex life such a panty twister for you and other triggered members of the "jury"?? Any answers? Sure you have all the answers because people with a forced narrative and agendas always have answers for things they think they know about.

I hear you and I dont disagree. I think I Was just asking from the standpoint of well she may not have thought nothing wrong happened but in reality, it was not ok or illegal or creepy or whatever. I mean, Prince was a rich rock star. That's a hell of an attractive place to be in when people are around you.

This is a complete and utter bait thread. I listened to the entire first episode (of two, the second hasn't aired yet) and Anna did not change her story. She said she and Prince did meet when she was 15 (after a Parade tour show at Wembley) and spent the night together platonically. She said this multiple times in the interview. rolleyes

And I'll ask again. What the heck do you want from the fans regarding who Prince was sexually attracted to? yup. "he didn't have trouble sleeping with women his age." That comment someone posted here makes no sense. It's not about wether women want to fuck you or not. It's about the fact that you can't control grown ass women the way you can control teenagers/kids. It's about an unfair powebalance. And let's just be honest, Prince loved to be in control. I wouldn't compare him to R.Kelly but he definitely married mayte cause she was obviously easier to manipulate. She said it herself, she was impressed with all his efforts cause she had no other experiences. I can't deny that I cringed real hard when I read that. But she also says he never overstepped lines. Prince just wanted a "partner" that would follow him no matter what. A grown woman won't do that.

I think that's above the pay grade of this forum. Although I'm impressed the typical racialist baiting, and casual misogyny wait until page 3.

One thing about judging this is it's void of context, we're just using 2022 values. Both of them were in a strange fishbowl... in the 80's no lesss...and she was a teen model in a professional culture that had her present herself as much older. We can't know if Prince would still do it today or approved of his younger self. He wanted fans to think he had disavowed himself of aspects of his own art, right? He didn't stand by all his own choices.

The larger rhetorical moral question is obvious. They weren't just friends, because any friendship was based on mutual admiration. Nobody would get the sense she was a naive girl preyed on, but she wasn't the age of consent, and discussing what people think of consent isn't really this places forte.

There is an old (grooming) saying that damn sure doesn't apply to the 20th and 21st century, if it ever did, because women have so many options now beyond giving somebody heirs. Unfortunately it's been ingrained into the consciousness for so long it's has a "normalized" status. Given that Prince, like a lot of men, and women, grew up listening to that saying, doesn't make it right but at the same time it was a common way of thinking that doesn't warrant constant flogging now. And the fact he's had a song that even mentions his own dilemma in it gives my respect that he did at least wrestle with it and didn't take the self imposed entitlement route. He had his own self-imposed boundaries in a world where such boundaries are blurred if not completely erased. I personally respect that. I say put your energies into dealing with places that want to lower the legal age of consent as opposed to constantly worrying about what someone who is no longer here did. Zero can be done about it now beyond sitting on ones butt and wagging a finger.

Since you brought Jerry Seinfeld up....
Who remembers back in the day when the media gave us daily updates on his whirlwind romance with that high school girl he was dating who later went on to design her own line of handbags? Yes, society has turned a blind-eye to this behavior with wealthy men for a long time....even encouraged it. Doesn't excuse it and we all know better now

This is extremely important. She mentions several times that the age of consent in Europe when she met Prince was 16. The age of consent also was - and still is - 16 in Minnesota.

We can debate whether it's creepy til the cows come home. But Anna states categorically that they were not sexually involved until long after she was legally able to consent so it's all moot, anyway.

Where's the lie I told, dear?? Please inform me.

She was a 15 year old girl who met a 30-plus year old megastar, spent the night with him the first night she met him, then continued to date him platonically for the next several years of her life. She also stated explicitly, which I didn't even mention before, that at 17 he was calling her his girlfriend.

It's all good. We are having a debate and I am asking some questions. Can a 30 year old be friends with a 15 year old - and I'll add - which develops into a romantic relationship once that 15 year old is "of age"?

One of my best friends was obsessed with a guy in his 30s when we were in high school who she fantasized about marrying someday and eventually gave her virginity to. Actual penis to vagina penetration didn't come until later because he too, according to her then, was being respectful and gentlemanly towards her. So from age 14 to about 17 he had her suck him off everyday and stuck anything he could find phallic shaped around his apartment up in her until she was "ready".

Now, decades later, she replays it in her mind and is filled with the shame of allowing herself to be his Lolita. Unfortunately when those memories are triggered her grief for those days she knows she can never take back is inconsolable
