Rick Beato: HER is the new Prince? She's wonderful, but is she the new Prince? Beato thinks so. I'd pick Bruno, but...

Props to both artists but I disagree.

HER and Bruno are both very talented artists in their own right.....but they are not even in the orbit of Prince IMO. “To create something from nothing is one of the greatest feelings, and I would – I don’t know, I wish it upon everybody. It’s heaven.” – Prince

Bruno can't write lyrics to save his ass. That's the difference.

H.E.R. can play better guitar than Lenny Kravitz, so there's that. But, can she dance? She is definately past her youngest prime. Janelle coulda, shoulda done it. "Whatever skin Ur in
we all need 2 b friends" | |

She can shred for sure, but I haven't heard any music by her that even comes close to Prince in his prime

Note he said, "in his prime." oh oh.
Chuck Eddy said that he peaked with Dirty Mind lol

Talented performers, but that's a stretch and a half.

I understood what he tried to say - that HER is a multi instrumentalist who has a guitar hero attitude - but I commented there that there is no comparison, that Prince was much more than this.

Cheap marketing for someone who isn't new. Why not highlight what makes her special like they did Prince when he was a newbie. I've just watched an interview of his where the ladies were fawning all over him about that 25 instrument thing. The expressions on his face, you could hear his thoughts. He did manage to get in that synthesizers can do a lot. Time keeps on slipping into the future...
This moment is all there is...

Clearly nonsense BUT how great is that Janelle & H.E.R. are carrying the legacy & fully acknowledging his influence. Quite incredible for 2 truly stellar artists.

As simple as that.....as talented H.E.R can be or others......there is with a such gift and legacy only 1 PRINCE.....a person of his kind is fully unique such were Mozart or Leonardo da Vinci...there was no Prince before him and no one will be like him with such gifts & Legacy from his music after him.....ONLY 1 ....there is no argue !!!!

And many replies here are knee-jerk reacting to what they think Beato is saying vs. what he actually said, which is that H.E.R. reminds him of Prince in that she is a multi-instrumentalist who can excel at many genres.

I like Rick Beato and I would say she is the "prince" of these times, in terms of her varied work and creating, BUT you cant compare the iconic status of those times to now, a musician like Prince and others from that time, did more than is done now.

She is nothing like Prince, and her music is nothing like Prince's...he's reaching...really really reaching...and thats being kind...its ridiculous to compare someone to P based soley on them being a "multi-instrumentalist"...P wasnt the first and surely wont be the last

Moses Sumney’s Grae reminded me a little of Prince in it’s eclecticism and ambition. Can’t stand Bruno Mars though, I struggle to understand why Prince fans draw the comparison - he's so middle-of-the-road and Prince was anything but.

. - Yeah! Well, I dont know much of H.E.R.´s career, I admit (only recent stuff), but is she really that versatile? I thought she did that basic R&B with some distorted guitar solos. Different from Prince, who recorded several genres.

Alright well I watched the Beato video after it randomly popped up on my YT. Yeah she can jam that guitar. Her sound is quite sanitized but I think maybe I'll investigate her further.
