Aftershow Experince

It's about time for the estate to focus on an ongoing aftershow series. There has to be some great gems in there that are either not in trading circles or improvements on those that are.

Releae them!

I just thought of that this week. I'm sure it will happen because it was such a big part of Prince's career.

Is the floating copy soundboard?

My version has dips in sound quality.

I've no idea what a floating copy is, but yes, it's a fantastic sounding soundboard recording with no dips in quality.

Formerly TheDigitalGardener etc.

That's the video version. It degrades after DMSR.

Dear Mulefunk, The Sabotage re-issue version of this show has all the IEM transmission noise cleaned up.

Housequake recently made a post asking ´Do you think the best is yet to come?´. Well, hard to think of something better than the classic albums when it comes to Prince. I know the Estate is first trying to please fans and non-fans and focusing on classics, but for me, there are things that would get me more excited. One of them is this: aftershows.

Have to agree here and hoping it is not hidden in an Blu_Ray only available in a expensive LoveSexy box with all hoopla.

Just digital like pearl jam / Bruce Springsteen or a focus on live sets era without album would be nice.

And do-able

There should be a prince version of the dagger label the Hendrix estate have for bootleg shows

I dont think the average person would be that into these shows

They're very informal mostly

They need to be released with the right context

This does not have to be an expensive or large release. One afteshow at a time, on CD and download, with not a lot of books and stuff. Focus on interesting musical content and let the fans have it. Very simple and satisfying.

Definitely. It just needs to be properly mixed.

- Yeah. There should be releases for the die-hard fans only.

and they can completely under-produce them. Only release digitally, in flac, with one or two pictures of the show, or even a ticket stub. Clean up the sound if needed, master it. Of course, if there is multitrack audio available, mix it properly, instead of the house mix done on the evening itself (although, One Night Alone shows that that can sound good as well!)

.

I keep saying it. Bring back NPG online or something similar, charge a fee to fans so you have guaranteed income, release one or two "commercial" releases per year and one or two semi-commercial ones (record store day or similar) and 3 or 4 die hard concert/aftershow digital only releases. Wether any of these have a cost depends on the price level for the online club recurring fees.

.

But no... they don't listen to me again. Bastards! razz

i just wondered - has anybody got any clue how many (digital) copies Bruce is selling of his live show download site? I have downloaded some of the shows (evenin HiRes), and just think this is a great service. Also, at least on Tidal, there are lots of live compiliations issued by Bruce Springsteen, following some "themes" with tunes from different shows.

Really wonder if this is econimiccaly viable or just something that Bruce Springsteen does as a service to his fans / build his legacy.

I'll probably get raked over the coals for saying this but I've been listening to Small Club and IMO, it's not that great. I mean, it's cool and all. The band sounds tight and Prince's singing is great but I think it gets lots of kudos because of performance of Just My Imagination and the solo in it. It has a slightly plastic-ness to it. Rave To The Joy Fantastic is superb though. I also have it on vinyl with that image of Prince jumping in the air in those satin (?) briefs.

It's a bit ragged in places. I'll probably get raked over the coals for saying this too but sometimes P live was a tad cocaine-fuelled. I hear it in places in the '85 Syracuse PR concert, and the '88 Dortmund Lovesexy concert. As brilliant as they are, there's also over-indulgence. I rate Rave Un2 the Year 2000 above 85 Syracuse and 88 Dortmund. For me it's on the same level as the best ever Sign 'O' The Times concert film.

I also think it was a first encounter for many for the possible excellent quality recordings that could be around. It opened a whole new view on this and what could be.
