*** Piano & Mic duo Hue & Cry talk at length about their 'Teacher' Prince *** Hola Purple family, this is a bit of an Easter treat.

Describing Prince as 'The Teacher' - Greg and Pat Kane from 1980s pop, jazz and soul duo Hue and Cry talk about their biggest inspiration...and guess who? Well worth a listen as they discuss a near miss at Paisley Park with Wendy and Lisa, not to mention Bobby McFerrin - and Greg reminisces briefly on an after-show at The Garage nightclub in Glasgow. "Every Prince song in the 80s is like an education". It also features excerpts from their 80s hits, b-sides and rarities.
A lot of fun and another perspective on Prince's work, from musicians who've had a long career in the industry.

Love Hue & Cry. will definitely check this out.
Labour of Love & Looking for Linda are classics.
and their cover version of The Man with the Child in His Eyes takes some beating.

Amazing to hear how passionate they are about things like The Family and Clare Fischer’s work. Prince clearly had a massive influence on them. Greg’s story about the Glasgow after show is good fun, as is their random cover version at Butlins! I think most of all they both wish they’d taken the chance to get out to Paisley Park while Prince was still with us.

Well... about a year after the Garage show I was in a bar right across the street (Nico’s) when Greg Kane and another fella came in and sat next to us. They introduced themselves. The other guy was a third Kane brother (so he said at least) and, like Paul Gallagher, was a poor big lump who would never have made it in a band with his siblings. Greg’s intentions became immediately clear. He was making moves on my relatively new girlfriend. I could have been more forceful, but I kinda wanted to see what a faded pop star might think he could get away with. I even let Big Brother engage me in conversation as part of a strategy to cut me off and give Greg free reign. They had it all figured out. It was fascinating, desperate. To make it sadder, my girlfriend was younger than me and had no clue who he was. By the end I had to tell Greg he was the saddest excuse for a human being I’d ever come across, and I’d tell everyone I knew what he was reduced to after ten years out of the charts. I didn’t really bother so I’m making up for it now.
