Prince and use of “the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone” Pedal article https://www.ultimate-guit...one-128971 Any ‘gear heads’ who can shed light on this pedal, or others Prince used? There may or may not be something coming!

I am an amateur guitar player, I have several friends who are professional ones and none of them like Metal Zone. They say that, even for metal it´s far from being the best pedal. Others say it sounds like a ´bee box´. I never played it, but judging from what I heard in some Youtube videos, it´s very hard to make it sound good. . BOSS distortions arent considered by many gearheads the best ones in the market. But some of them were used by famous people. Turbo Distortion, for example, a pedal that Prince used a lot, was used by John Frusciante and Kurt Cobain. Distortion was used by Satriani, Vai, and many others. . Prince used the Blues Driver a lot, which is usually considered a great one. Dont know if he used as a booster.

I remember reading that he used one back in a cover story on him in Guitar World. He might have used it a boost for his solos. I tried one years ago..sounds like tin foil on fire. Only good dirt pedals made by BOSS are the Super Overdrive and the Blues Driver.

Yeah the MT-2 is very very common was always a bit of an acquired taste. Modern day "internet wisdom" frequently claims it is a bit of a dog, but like the much maligned DS-1 it is popular for a reason, you can get great sounds out of it and it doesn't HAVE to sound like a swarm of bees, it just depends how you dial it in really. It's kinda come full circle now because the recent Wazacraft re-issue of the MT-2w is very highly regarded. I think it just depends how you feel about very high gain pedals but it sounds earth shattering.
Prince was chasing some truly horrible tones around this time in his career, but as ever he still sounded awesome anyway [Edited 3/24/22 13:58pm]

- I am not alone My fave era is the 90s, but his guitar tone in some cases was very bad. On the other hand, he sounded amazing in the 2000s with that Strat with whammy bar.
