Can't believe this is radio 4. I must be getting old.

It is bollocks, but quite a fun listen if you aren't too precious. They could have gone after some other 'evil' stuff too, but equally so on the 'genius' side.

I listen to this podcast reguarly. Very much a 'bit of fun' but I do wish they would always bring in an expert on the subject. Then you could get some pushback on some of the statments being made.

Was sort of impressed that the researcher dug out the lyrics to Extraloveable and Lust U Always for the fist envelope.

Taking Sinead O'Connor's word as gospel though, that Prince was on hard drugs, was less impressive.

Susan Rogers has confirmed it. Check out Toure's podcast. Both the Rogers and Susanah Melvoin episodes are truly excellent.

Yes..around the time of making Sign o the Times someone convinced Prince he needed to explore them so he did. You can hear him reference this in Play in the Sunshine (ecstacy) and Eye No (smack). It may have been more mushrooms and LSD than ecstacy and heroin though...

Amazing how things get out of hand isn't it. Susan Rodgers never said prince used hard drugs! She has stated that Prince was clean as a whistle and against using drugs. He tried a drug once, during the lovesexy , sign of the times era. Which he hated the experience apparently. Amazing how a story can get out of hand down the line. He was no hard drug taker!

Just listened to this. It has to be the most unbalanced disussion based on 3rd hand interpretations of stories from people who seem to have researched the content on google.

For example, they didn't even know Denise's relationship with Prince and even their connection up to both of their passings.

Sinead O'Connor's story changes and I am a fan but she is clearly suffering and I don't think that the alleged Prince episode is at the centre of her struggles. The hearsay about Prince used in the show was really poor journalism. Tabloid stuff.

With regards to the misogyny spoken about, they clearly skipped over that Prince was probably the Rock musician that consistently hired and promoted talented female musicians in his bands. I haven't heard Elisa, Shelby and 3rd eye Girl musicans dis Prince publicly since his passing.

A really poor pub chat of a program in my opinion. Symbolic of the current world's inability to understand context, nuance and a wish to conflate every issue under the sun into the current will to cancel everything.

The only one who tried to be balanced was Johnny Cochrane (I think that was him, but as I don't know them). If Prince genuinely had all these skeletons in his closet, he would have been sued to high heaven during his life and his estate would have been following his death.

Thankfully, I have never heard of these people who will not be rememberd as "genius" or "evil" in their fields in the future.

It's not that good.

I know it’s meant to be irreverent and comedic, but they really should have at least one person on the panel who has more than a passing familiarity with Prince when discussing whether or not he was a misogynist. I mean, I really dislike the rape references in Extraloveable and Lust U Always which I find juvenile and unnecessary, and parts of Purple Rain haven’t aged very well, but the vast majority of his work and his real-world actions suggest that he was no misogynist, quite the opposite.

Exactly. He had Cat Glover get him some MDMA (ecstacy). She got it from Anthony Keidis and was told he should only take half of it because he was so small. He took the whole thing and flew for a few hours, calling people and telling them he loved them.

That "Evil Genius" bullshit shouldn't even be talked about.
