(I'm gonna regret posting this)

I don't believe these were his intentions, but he's got this intimidating vibe about him during his Rave era photoshoots. Like some kind of darkness embodies him, like his next album's gonna be 666 or Thriller or something. Lol thoughts?

why around early 90s? in rave the heat got too hot-- he was looking a little too crispy. The pigtails and jumpsuit were just the frosting over that.

Early nineties he was rake thin, white foundation on his face and looked strung out!

Meh. His look was like Batman era 2.0. It was no more "intimidating" than that era.

I mean this was after Lollapalooza and he wasn't talking to Perry Ferrel anymore so... oh wait.

I didn't care for the blue shiny jumpsuit or the pigtails....but damn, this photo is HOT.

And thus 'intimidating'? Only if you think the dark is intimidating and carry a flashlight with spare batteries at all times.

I always found this era to be visually stunning . . . not sure if I would use the word "intimidating" though.

Aside from the blue pleather suit/braids (which I always thought also looked badass), there was an almost biblical look to him during Rave. Long hair, beard, flowing outfits and majestic poses.

This maybe was his last unique "look/era", as he shifted to suits shortly after.

P.S. I always thought the 1999 era was his most intimidating. Some of the photography/makeup/etc. had a possessed (no pun intended) look to them.

Great pick up on the biblical look, I do see that.

like the Newpower Soul era the Rave era music did not match or interprete the style/style did not represent the music like previous eras

I have never studied this photo before. It is sort of creepy. But still very attractive...
