If you listen to "New Power Generation, Pt.2", you can hear the -love2theleftofmelove2theright- in the background vocals.
I just wanted to know if anyone had an idea who was the guy (girl?) Prince was referring to with "...once i give her back 2 ya..."

A lot of those elements are in "New Power Generation." Tevin's oopey doop or whatever, Robin's "Awwww right!" etc. It's sort of genius that Prince took different elements and made other songs from them. I've always thought "New Power Generation" and "Gett Off" were the two best EPs with this practice. "Cream" is the close third.
I thought about this thread last night. I believe that "love 2 the left of me, love 2 the right" is merely a riff on Morris and Jerome saying "Sexiness to the left of me..." "Sexiness to the right!" in the movie. It's all meta unto itself. Someone already noted that this is probably where it comes from, and I believe that's the most logical answer.
Sometimes a lyric is just a lyric. Not every single word Prince wrote is 100% real life inspiration. Often the inspiration is just the music itself, and finding words that fit the music. And honestly, the song is almost something Morris should've sung in the movie instead of something like "Love Machine," since he had Robin and wanted Aura.
That's Elisa Fiorillo's Oobey Doop Be Shoo Doo Loo Fly Me Doo Koo Shoo Ooh, to be exact. |

Good spot. The ‘love to the left...’ line starts at the 1:43 point on "New Power Generation, Pt.2". Interestingly (well it is to me), the ‘left’ plays on the left channel, and ‘love to the right’ on the right channel when I listened in stereo on headphones.
Part 2 was on an early configuration of Graffiti Bridge, the first one with “Thieves in the Temple” (which Prince Vault states was recorded on 11 February 1990). New Power Generation had been reworked in December 1989, but the exact date for pt2 isn’t stated on Prince Vault, or the exact date of that configuration.
Edit: Link for Prince Vault entry for “Loveleft, Loveright”:

I so hope this will be released one day, the full/long version of it, and also "My Tree / A Positive Place" and while we're at it, throw "Play" in there as well. This NPG EP could have been a real mini companion to the actual album.
I know a lot of people hate them, but there is such a good energy and so much fun in the run of
Oobey Doop My Tree A Positive Place
I keep going back to it. Absolutely love it.
