The Lubricated Lady - Mandela Effect?

Can anyone tell me where this verse went ?

I will still be hip
When the words from your lip take a dip in the ratings
Then I'll be stripping your Mercedes off your Lubricated Lady
And taking her 4 a walk, taking her 4 a walk

Listen to the song , prince only released one version of this song, and now that verse is missing

Please check the song and if you have a copy where he is still singing that verse, please let me know

The only Mandela effect I know of with Prince is that he was touted as a half-black, half-Italian artist when he was breaking through in the early 80s.

Maybe it was marketing, or wrongful word-of-mouth? But I remember it.

Nah. The interview still exist. Honestly I really don't blame him looking as he looked. Why go through an entire US history lesson and how genetics work during an interview?

Perhaps you are looking in the wrong song? That verse is from ‘Get Off’ (the single ‘t’ song, not ‘Gett Off’) and not from the song ‘The Lubricated Lady’. Both are of course on the NPG maxi-single. https://www.discogs.com/r...Generation

and how long is your copy of LL ?

https://www.princevault.com/index.php?title=Single:_New_Power_Generation

they all show 2:39 seconds , yours would have to be longer , and i dont remember nor is princevault showing an extended version of this song existing

My copy of Lubricated Lady is 2:48, but now that I think about it, this lyric might be from Get Off itself not LL.

You are correct - the song that actually contains that verse is track 4 of the New Power Generation EP: Get Off (N.P.G version). Track 5 - The Lubricated Lady contains some of the same lyrics, but not that verse.

Confusing the two is easy if one relies on any of the usual lyrics sites for the lryics, look up 'Lubricated Lady' on any of them and they list the lyrics to Get Off instead (not to be confused with entirely different song Gett Off).

Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

Yeah, "Get Off" and "Lubricated Lady" sorta run together, where there's a distinct cut before "Loveleft, Loveright."

My original CD has times:

Get Off: 4:41

Lubricated Lady: 2:40

Loveleft, Loveright: 4:56

DTT has "Get Off" and "Lubricated Lady" lyrics together under one heading. And the verse in question is much earlier in the "Get Off" portion than the OP suggests, which means it's likely technically in "Get Off," not "Lubricated Lady."

And WTF is the Mandela Effect?

Get Off / The Lubricated Lady

New Power
Lay down your funky...
Get off!

Get off, baby

What can a brother do when the clock keeps ticking U off?
Turn the other cheek or kick a nut till he coughs, "Get off"
"Get off"

CHORUS:

On the positive tip
I'm equipped with a whip
But I don't have 2 spank U cuz this is my ship
Get off {x2}

(Get off, baby)

I will still be hip
When the words from your lip take a dip in the ratings
Then I'll be stripping your Mercedes off your Lubricated Lady
And taking her 4 a walk, taking her 4 a walk

On the positive tip
I'm equipped with a whip
I don't have 2 spank U cuz this is my ship
Get off {x4}

Ooh, is this a dream?
No - everybody get off
Is this a dream? {x2}
Get-a-get-a-get-a-get off

CHORUS

(I got the bed 4 U)
Get off (Hey, hey sugar)
Get off

(Get off) {repeat in BG}
Once I give her back 2 ya
She won't ever wanna do ya
Cuz I wrote the book
I taught her how 2 look
She showed me the money U gave her - I took
I even ate her cooking
That's more than U did

Get off {x2}

What can a brother do when the clock keeps ticking U off?
Turn the other cheek or kick a nut till he cough, "Get off" (Ooh, help me)
"Get off" (Get off)

Get off {sampled}
New Power {sampled}

Everybody get off {x2}

Is this a dream? {x2}
Get-a-get-a-get-a-get off

CHORUS

(I got the bed 4 U)
Get off (Hey, hey sugar)
Get off

What can a brother do when the clock keeps ticking U off?
Turn the other cheek or kick a nut till he cough, "Get off" (Ooh, help me)
"Get off" (Oh)

Get off {repeat and sampled}

Everything alright back there?

It was him. I had an interview CD from back in the day where he either said or implied it himself. Or it was the Mandela effect.

You can go ahead and blame him because he lied. He asked Warner Brothers not to make him white. People have been familiar with people of mixed white and black ancestry as long as people have existed. That black people do not all share the same shade of color has also been known for as long as people have existed. It was nothing but marketing and an attempt not to be classified as black for the sake of his career. For that I do not blame him. He got to the point where he could say, do, and be what he wanted by playing the game. No US history or genetics lessons are necessary to just say, "I'm just a light-skinned black man".

Based on the comments I've seen in this place over the years, let alone the world at large, it's enough to know that people don't truly know or consider all that especially from people outside the US, which is where that interview took place. I can understand when Spike Lee says Prince would have approached things differently if he grew up in NYC rather than Minneapolis. There would have been a host of other questions trying to pinpoint the specifics of his heritage to explain how he looks because why did he need to mention his parents race in the first place if it wasn't about how he looks. I've seen similar scenarios play out time and time again.
Time keeps on slipping into the future...

Had he met Diamond and Pearl yet? This was late 1990. Maybe he was introducing the next era, or had the idea of twins being part of the aesthetic floating around in his head. He certainly had some influential ones in his life.

Tour rehearsals were around this time so I imagine he had the aesthetic in mind. He's also kind of always played around with the twin lady imagery since Jill/Lisa during 1999 tour

That's an interesting theory. The EP was tracked in Sept/Oct 1990 (as was the other songs on the EP). Diamonds and Pearls wasn't released until a full year later. So that is a lot of time to meet Robina and Elle and create that headspace for "Loveleft, Loveright."

I don't fully buy that they were around enough, or at all, to be able to inspire such a track, that was likely written a bit earlier than the tracking (ie: ideas already in his head). Good theory, though. But I don't see it as plausible.

Of course these days, former associates seem to bend timelines to their favor anyway. So who knows.

Wasn’t there some line in the Graffiti Bridge movie, may be a scene with a drunk Morris Day, in which he says love to the left of me, love to the right, or something similar. It’s about 30 years since I’ve watched the film, so don’t hate me if I’ve mis-remembered.

something to the left of me, sexyness to the right... it's all about the pimp sandwitch tonight...

I found this

Morris Day: Sexiness to the left of you!
Jerome Benton: Sexiness to the right!
Morris Day: It's all about the pimp sandwich tonight!! Waah ha ha!

Graffiti Bridge was filmed in Feb and March 1990, so the genesis of the song Loveleft, Loveright is from this time or before, given this line.

If you listen to "New Power Generation, Pt.2", you can hear the -love2theleftofmelove2theright- in the background vocals.

I just wanted to know if anyone had an idea who was the guy (girl?) Prince was referring to with "...once i give her back 2 ya..."

A lot of those elements are in "New Power Generation." Tevin's oopey doop or whatever, Robin's "Awwww right!" etc. It's sort of genius that Prince took different elements and made other songs from them. I've always thought "New Power Generation" and "Gett Off" were the two best EPs with this practice. "Cream" is the close third.

I thought about this thread last night. I believe that "love 2 the left of me, love 2 the right" is merely a riff on Morris and Jerome saying "Sexiness to the left of me..." "Sexiness to the right!" in the movie. It's all meta unto itself. Someone already noted that this is probably where it comes from, and I believe that's the most logical answer.

Sometimes a lyric is just a lyric. Not every single word Prince wrote is 100% real life inspiration. Often the inspiration is just the music itself, and finding words that fit the music. And honestly, the song is almost something Morris should've sung in the movie instead of something like "Love Machine," since he had Robin and wanted Aura.
