That tour didn't reach a lot of major markets, they were on the Southern pro wrestling circuit.

Looking back now, I'm glad I didn't get to go. My grandmother and uncle were going to take me until she called the box office to get tickets and they heard an elderly white woman on the phone and asked.... "Ma'am, do you realize WHAT you are getting tickets for?"....and she about had a heart attack on the phone. Tell a white woman in her 70s, from The South, in the year 1980, that you'll probably be one of the only white people in the building other than the ones that work there and see what happens. lol

.

She's the one that gave me money to buy all my records though to keep me entertained. Looking back, knowing what I know now, if we had gone, I wouldn't be too worried about Prince. I've heard stories from people in my area, around my age, that claimed to have gone, and they say that Prince stripped down like he did on the "Dirty Mind" tour. Well yeah, I'm sure he did on several of the shows on the "Fire It Up" tour but I've also heard stories from people who claim to have attended that are older than me and they said that Prince was pretty tame and shy in that show which makes sense because from what I've read, Prince didn't get wild until after he saw all the attention that Rick got from being wild on stage. Prince probably got wild later on during that tour after he left my area. Rick was wild from day one pulling out joints on stage and telling the audience to pull theirs out too and fire it up. I would have LOVED the show but my grandmother would have had a heart attack and would NEVER buy me another record again if she had been there. lol

How did Rick pull that off in the 70s, in the South, of all places, when marijuana was strictly illegal in the 70s and 80s and people like Timothy Leary were punished with ten years in prison for possession of two joints. I understand that there is a double standard for celebrities and Leary was considered a subversive person but still....Rick´s antics back then and in the 90s too were very crass and over the top. He did what he did for such a long time until he was finally sent to prison. But how did he get away with that in the early days? And why?

My Friend Kevin (R.I.P.) said that the Buffalo Show got CANCELLED because Rick James was "Sick".

I didn't see Rick James or Prince until 1983. I was too Young back then (only 12). Sidebar: My Big Sis Stacy (R.I.P.) saw the Dirty Mind Tour in Buffalo (Teena Marie opened). They said Rick was SO MAD that He walked out halfway through Prince's Set

Yes and it's one of, if not the 1st, concert experience that I remember. Saw it in Chicago and still remember him and his keyboardist doing the long tongue-kissing towards the end of the show (and one of my parents covering my eyes too late). If memory serves me correctly, we left immediately and didn't stay to check out Rick...

Vaughan Mason, as is the Org namesake and James Ambrose Johnson has transitioned on to the next life cycle.

I did not see him during that tour, but read Rick's book Memoirs of a Superfreak. A whole chapter, incl pics, on that tour and Prince. The book is great stuff all around.
