Prince Demo of Manic Monday and The Bangles version?

How many of you all like Prince's Demo of Manic Monday?

And do you like The Bangles version?

I have The Originals CD with Prince's demo on it. Like his demo version. Do any of you have The Bangles CD/Album: Different Light with their version of Manic Monday?

I hear Manic Monday on the radio here in Germany more than any other Prince song.

The Bangles did a great job of covering Prince's great song.

That's my "P.C." take on it.

prince's demo on the originals cd? interesting, thought that album only had the 2019 estate approved reimagining.

I find Prince's version somewhat lacklustre compared to The Bangles. It's still decent enough though, it is what it is.

Formerly TheDigitalGardener etc.

I have the Bangles Different Light cd. While I do like the Prince original version I think that the Bangles version is better. It feels like a happier version than Prince's does.

The Prince version doesn't really hold my attention, but it does draw attention to the craft of the song more, and help me appreciate it in a new way. The Bangles really own it now, and there aren't many instances where that's the case for Prince (Chaka Kahn comes to mind as another). If we're judging, we have to judge the duet, because that was the only one reportedly meant to be released.

The Bangles didn't "cover" Prince's song. It was something he never released and he gave it to them to record. So, it is a Bangles song written by Prince.

Semantics, but I don't want to negate one of their biggest hits. When I hear that song, I hear the Bangles.

I would love to hear a Prince acoustical version with just him on a six string! I think that would be an awesome version.

Just a quick thought, but I'm wondering is it because Manic Monday has always been described as Prince "gifting" the song to The Bangles?

It's never described as "transactional" or something the record label/managers set up. Or in the case of NC2U, something he was kind of against.

also it does seem some of his take backs were out of anger such as nc2u and the family and time dispute over the old band names .. glamourous life wasn't added much until after sheila came back and then they had the falling out and it seemed like he kept playing it live .. maybe he still had a crush on hoffs and never had a falling out so he didn't want to steal her thunder .. duane tuhdall should write a book about it

He gave them two songs, the one they used was a massive hit he probably still ate off, and was cool with the situation, and like you say, cool with Hoffs.

Unlike the proteges, he seemed less worried about credit for songs he submitted to other artists. Then again, he did play it once in 1986 with Wendy on vocals, and if we're tracking Prince taking things back, he already pulled it off the Apples' record
