how am I getting personal?

My mistake about you starting the thread. I accidentally scrolled to the top of this page and saw your post instead of refreshign page 1. I apologize for that.

But all I did was quote you.

That's not personal

It's a humorous metaphor reflecting the content of your posts in this thread that ties in a set up that bozojones teed up for me

I don't know anything about you personally. Just what you've written in this thread and these forums

Contributing to the debate/discussion would be swell! I haven't seen you really do that. "Just a simply" or otherwise.

Is passive aggressively referring to me as "bud" and calling me "all kinds of wrong" without saying why personal? Or is that different?

And by the way, I wasn't the one that referred to you as a brick wall.

I was just pointing out how that comparison breaks down upon closer insepction and thought it was a little unfair to the poor, innocent brick walls everywhere who never did anything to us smile

Jesus Christ, lighten up.

Also, it's been pointed out repeatedly that gender appropriate clothes/fashion change and evolve over time - in the context of "who cares about a movie celebrating drag culture?" - and Prince was a HUGE part of that, as it relates to the thread topic.
Whether it's masculine or feminine doesn't matter to me and it never did but I can assure everyone here that in the early 1980's it mattered to a lot of people, for equally misguided and petty reasons that were almost entirely centered around homophobia. I always thought the gender bending shit that Prince, Bowie, Mark Bolan, Mick Jagger, Boy George, Annie Lennox, Adam Ant, Elton John, Grace Jones, New York Dolls, etc. were cool as hell and stll do. I appreciated their bravery and how they challenged uptight people who can never seem to get over themselves or put down the pearls they like to clutch.
I keep thinking and hoping that we've moved past that and, while we've come a long way, we're obviously not there yet if some of the posts in this thread are any sort of barometer. The OP's thesis here is that Prince would HATE a critically acclaimed movie celebrating drag culture being shown at PP - and maybe he would. May be.
But he aint around to complain about it anymore and none of us should speak for him.

We only go by what we know, and PP wasn't going to be waving the lgbt flag...

I though so too in the beginning. But now I understand it better.

Prince is dead. We will never know for sure. How can you be so sure ?

It seemed that he was changing in the end... Again, we'll never know 100%

Prince must've had gay people working for him too tbh...

Although I don't know that. I asked the question here before, but no one could answer it.

I personally don't think he was homphobic anymore in the end.

and my real premise is, if this is a Fuck you to Prince's beliefs as bozojones/mbdtyler stated then it's a disrespect to Prince and his legacy

That's is irrelevant to say, there is even no disrespect to it. He is a Prince fan too.

Thank god we all don't think the same or love the same about Prince.

Paisley Park is PRINCES' place...

In theory, yes. Officially, no.

Of course, right now in the memory of his legacy and persona.

But time moves on, the use of PP might/will change.

Fans will get older and die and Prince might be forgotten eventually.

Is that so bad or sad to realise ?

^^^Having a difficult time reading that post due to the formatting^^^

But I agree that the assertion that Paisley Park is "Prince's House" is, while spiritually and altruistically a nice conceptual way to think about, is just patently untrue in TYOOL, 2021.

He's gone. He can't the call shots from an urn. This is abject reality.

He didn't leave a will, any written instructions on what he wanted done or even a video as far as I know. Knowing him, he figured it would all be "left up to God" and, accordingly, didn't worry about it. SO maybe screening "Paris is Burning" is god's will, no? If you wanna go full crazy, he may have thought he'd live forever since he didn't count time, keep track of birthdays or celebrate calendar years. He spoke off handedly and cryptically on those things more than a few times.

My point is, if he had specfic and rigid plans in mind for Paisley Park after his death, for a person of his wealth, means, contacts, legal team and power, it would have been relatively trivial for him to set up if it was that important to him. But he didn't. He put more legal effort and thought into scrubbing and deep cleaning YouTube than anything related to this..."thing"

Whatever this is.

So here we are with a movie screening in the middle of Minnesota during the dead of winter that no one but the most fanatical, hardcore and dug in sychophants give a rat's ass about one way or another that may or not entertain members of the LBGT community, many of whom, if they're my age and anything like me, looked to Prince as an inspiration and a reason to celebrate themselves.

I'm still not seeing the problem in the grand scheme of things and no one can (care to) explain it to me either.

This is the real answer.

Paisley Park isn't Mecca. It's not the Vatican. It's a fucking recording studio for a man who wrote and produced music, much of which talked about gender, sexuality, and eating pussy. Now fans wanna get up on their stack of Rainbow Children vinyl and preach about what Prince would've wanted?

If Prince was smart enough to have a will, he certainly wouldn't have included a clause that said, "No gay shit, don't let Wendy and Lisa in here, either."

OK. that made me laugh so thanks. Yeah...last thing we might need or expect from Prince is any "gay shit". Can you just IMAGINE?

smile

I guess the real question now is...

SO HOW WAS THE MOVIE, WHO WENT AND WHAT WAS PAISLEY PARK LIKE?

Oh, wait. Not for another month...

Carry on, thread.

I'll show myself out.

LOL.

Exactly. smile

Still not convinced if he would refuse 'gay shit' in PP (be careful with that word, or i'll kick yo ass, LOL wink ).

We will never know FOR SURE.

And that's the real end of it.
