Push - the strings

I was listening to my Tony M.-free version of Diamonds and Pearls the other day. When I got to "Push," I noticed the string section and recognized it as some Clare stuff. PrinceVault doesn't seem to have information other than it goes uncredited to Fisher.

I'm more wondering what song the strings were originally intended for.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

The strings are from Crystal Ball. Push gets a lot of dislikes on here but I think it rocks. One of Tony's greatest moments!

As I said, Tony isn't on my version other than his little blurbs here and there. So, it's a much better song.

And good to know about the strings.

Rosie's, Prince's and Tony's rap on this song are... plain awefull.

That Prince ''hahahaha'', did he realy like that himself?

Song's beat isn' that bad. Just too much rosie for me. wink

Maybe an extendeversion (if it excists) could be better.

Prince recycled a lot of his Clare Fisher stuff. He also had lots of unused Clare Fusher stuff that didn't make it to the final mixes of songs. I couldn't tell you what those songs are, but that what Clare's son tells me. Apparently Prince had Clare compose and record a lot more stuff than has been used.

I was speaking about Push on facebook, and Michael Bland told me Prince used the riff from the live version of "Ooh This I Need" from Elisa Fiorillo's per4mance on Arsenio Hall for the basic tracking.

The opening orchestration from Crystal Ball I believe is part of the bit used in Push.

I know that. My question was what were the strings originally intended for that were recycled for "Push." They sounded familiar, yet I couldnt' place them.

I do believe "Crystal Ball" is the right answer. It rings true when I read it. I didn't see that note on PrinceVault, which is sorta puzzling, since they're usually good at noting little trinkets like that.

I have to say, I don't hear it. Not that it's untrue. I just don't hear it.

Thats insteresting because they rhythm guitar is the same as the one on Push in this live per4mance at the very least. Same chords.

incredible how a song as sexy and good as OOOH THIS I NEED could be the jumping off point for PUSH falloff

The live version I liked better than the album. I remember being dissapointed it did not sound like it did on Arsenio Hall
