In studio, some songs that I would recommend that he played some bass solos are:

- I´m yours

- 2 Nigs United 4 West Compton

- What´s my name

But there are songs that show his groovy side, like ´Le Grind´, , ´7779311´, ´Alphabet Street´, ´Let´s work´, etc

.

..

Not to mention that some of his best bass moments were live. Like on the 2011 Bass Medley at Stade de France or the Bass Medley at Le Bataclan, 2002. There is one where he played some cool slap bass over a James Brown groove in one of those 2007 concerts, but I need more details.

.

.

I REALLY want to hear those isolated instruments on Alphabet St. As you probably already knew Morris Hayes talked about that on The Peach and Black Podcast. And he still claimed that it was an mind boggling experience just listening to the instruments. THAT is something for the estate to give us hardcore fans. Morris knows.

Though I don't like covers of Prince hits, this guy surely knows how to play the bass!

Nice.

Thanks.

Prince is my favorite multi instrumentalist along With McCartney.
.
But I don’t think anyone has mentioned Harry Connick Jr., who is skilled not only on all the main instruments but also plays a variety of horns. He a phenomenal musician who often doesn’t get a ton of credit. Prince fan, too, and some of his less-traditional music bears the influence of Prince.
I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

I doubt Flavor Flav can even tell the time. Meanwhile, listen to Perfect Way off the Tutu album for summat funky. I mean, is that not funky enough for flunkman88?

The real 'Perfect Way' by Scritti Politti is even funkier.

To funkman88, check these orignals (too).

And yes this version by Miles is also fantastic.

Green Gardside and his partner made fantastic funk albums in the early eighties.

'Cupid & Psyche' & 'Provision' is one of my old time favorite albums.

Amazing list! Junie was such an unsung genius. He was definitely a musical mad man, and to stand out in a lineup FULL of geniuses was testimonial to his talent.

I never heard of Louis Cole, perhaps I should give him a listen.

Even though he was more of a singer/songwriter/producer, Rick James played different instruments on his albums. He may not have been as proficient as the others mentioned, but he knew enough to write his own songs.

6.FLAVOR FLAV-PUBLIC ENEMY

He sang in the youth choir at his church and mastered the piano, drums and guitar at an early age. FLAV is proficient in fifteen instruments .

5.Dave Grohl
Instruments:
Vocals, drums, guitar, bass, piano, percussion
Grohl’s post Nirvana 15-track demo had everything – except for one guitar part – recorded by himself.

4.Trent Reznor

Saying that Nine Inch Nails leader is a brilliant artist would be an understatement. Besides the creativity and great vocal work, he is also known for his multi-instrumentalist skills.

3. Stevie Wonder
Instruments:
Vocals, keyboards, harmonica, drums, bass guitar, congas, bongos, keytar, accordion, harpejji
On Superstition he played all instruments except horns and guitar!

2.Paul McCartney

Like being in one of the best musical groups of all time wasn't enough, even well into his 70s McCartney still rocks. And not only as a bassist and a vocalist but as guitarist, pianist, and drummer as well.

1. Prince

And the definite winner of this list is the all mighty, the one and only, Prince. It's one thing to know how to play a couple of tunes and licks on various instruments. But it's a whole new level of awesomeness if you are proficient on each of them. Well, Prince was one of those guys. Besides his impeccable vocal skills and wicked guitar playing, Prince mastered bass, drums, and keyboards.

Do u agree with this list? who would u add and is Prince truly number 1?

I did not know this about Flavor Flav, and I know a prince fanatic who is friends with Flav!

I think Flavor Flav hated Prince because Prince dissed him at some after concert thing a while back, but then later in the 2000's he had a good experience meeting Prince, and thought he was cool after that. And when Prince died, Flav was comforting and very sweet to my friend (the prince fanatic) when she saw him after some concert.
