Eye Hate U and Sweet Baby connection

In "Eye Hate U", Prince (or The Artist at the time, I suppose) sings "I'm out the door sweet baby, that's right, we're through" as he rails about getting his heart broken by a woman who used him. It has been stated that this song is about Carmen Electra doing him dirty when she moved to L.A. Do you think he is referring to her as "Sweet baby" in this song because that was a pet name for her, and a subtle shout out to the song "Sweet Baby" from the Love Symbol album?

When Love Symbol came out he was already involved with her, she was even featured on his ABC network special promoting the album. Perhaps "Sweet Baby" from that album documents the beginning of their love affair as he comforts her from a heartbreak and "Eye Hate U" is the end of the affair. Hearing it like this as two book ends does tell a story. Put "The Continental" in the middle of the 2 songs and you have a mini-suite called "Prince + Carmen". Ya feel me?

Mayte also appears on Love Symbol album; Carmen was on her way out by that time even though she "rapped" on The Continental.

The Sweet Baby video is all Mayte.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Every Prince fan should read Mayte's book.

It's so poignant but also sincere imho.

Right, she talks all about these topics from his different women (including Carmen and her exit), to their marriage, the music he made in the 90s all the way up to Rainbow Children

The Sweet Baby video is all Mayte.

You understand that Prince wrote thee music BEFORE the albums were released. Stuff on the Love Symbol was written 1989-1991. It could have been written about Carmen, but by the time the videos were made he was with Mayte.

"Sweet Baby" is a nod to Kirstie Alley's character on Cheers. It was her pet name for her boyfriend Robin Colcord. When they broke up, she said "That's it, sweet baby!" Kirstie also plays Vanessa Bartholomew on the symbol album.

I read it. Nothing I say contradicts anything in the book.
His marriage to Mayte was a contract anyway. Lasted the industry standard 5 years (just like his marriage to Manuela), and coincided with an important album release - Emancipation (just like Manuela- Musicology).
