First time I hear him say that Prince was hard to get to paly inthe White House. wink

God how fantastic that would be if it ever was filmed... and available.

I stumbled upon a joint interview with Obama and Springsteen a week ago or so on TV and he said at first Prince turned the offer to play at the White House down after he was asked if someone ever turned down an offer to play there. I guess Obama pulled out his checkbook and tried again lol
There's only that pic of him dancing next to Prince as far as I know and I'd imagine that White House policy would dictate no recording can ever leave that premise without a hunderd permissions.

The reason P initially turned down appearing at the White House was due to a connection with birthday celebrations. The JW thing (publicly) although he actually would smile when others wished him a happy birthday. Such a conundrum.
When he wrote about "when did religion get so complicated", I had to laugh because he made it so, himself.

Photo here as well as Michele Obama's words to Questlove: https://consequence.net/2...ite-house/

Pete Souza, the WH photographer, obviously took many, many photos that night. When Prince died, three were hung in the WH.
Pete should publish them in a book; his previous book includes the photo we're all familiar with.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

The Obama & Springsteen interview is promoting a larger podcast called Renegades: Born in the USA. It's out everywhere. It's a series of conversations about race and other social issues, their childhoods, etc. I've been listening to an episode every few nights (they're about an hour long) while sewing.

Here's an interview on CBS Sunday Morning with them.

I don't think the Prince story has come up yet. But it might. I've heard it before.
