Anna Stesia 1988 or 2002 versions? Which versions do you like better? In my opinion 2002 version features much better singing and guitar playing although he did spoil it with that extended 10 minutes coda thats an advertisement to join Npg music club [Edited 10/18/21 23:01pm]

The NPG Music club pitch was quite unfortunate, when he's talking about members being in the good seats and there were people from the club who were not in the good seats because there were so few avaialble and demand exceeded supply. Must have been sickening for those people sitting further back to hear him come out with that speech. RIP

I first listened to ONA Live not long ago and it was fantastic up until the 'let's play less than two minutes of all the hits on a piano' bit during the second half. Anyway, after all that I was looking forward to a mindblowing thirteen-minute epic rendition of Anna Stesia, only to discover that it's actually a five-minute mindblowing rendition of Anna Stesia followed by an epic eight minutes of absolutely nothing of any interest whatsover.

I think most of us that were actually in the good seats were ok with it.

Loool only prince would make one of his best songs into a commercial on his first live album

I've got to say, I do love that groove at the end. I believe that closed the Celebration in 2002 as 'Party 'Til the Sun Comes Up'.

1988 triumphs simply for being the original, but I dig the 2002 version. Also, wasn't offended by the "they in the good seats" as I was 8 at the time & had no idea who Prince was Only Prince would shade his fans at his concert during his concert

And it just goes against the spirit of the song. Damn shame and never ceases to bring me down from the purple high of an otherwise stellar set. And it's ironic how in the same speech, he's preaching about how we should elevate the things that we have in common, not our differences. I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore...

1988 any day. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Of course he did what else would a polarizing Gemini be without his contradictions. He can’t help himself. It reminds me of one of his interviews with Tavis, where he was pleading with the press to be kinder and show more compassion toward him and just a few questions away he ripped artists into new shreds with the shady “real music for real musicians” speech. His little sermon doesn’t take away from the amazing performance.

One of my top 10 Prince songs - gets to me every time Dortmund version sucks 2 all other 88 versions cause Prince had problem with his guitar so he couldnt play solo

I love both versions, both are fantastic! If i have to decide, i'd choose the 2002 live version although it's close. Anna Stesia is one of my Top5 Prince songs ever 💜

Both are great but I prefer the 2002 version. Welcome 2 The Dawn

1988 by a country mile or two. The chants are more powerful and emotive. The 2002 version feels a bit forced.
What's most offensive is that 1988 Prince believed God was for everyone in all of their wonderful diversity. The 2002 versión was a Larry Graham infected Jehovas Witness who hates diversity and is clearly thinking many in his audience will be damned for not joining the one true way of the Witnesses. That plus the commercial plugging really cheapens the redemptive and inclusive intention of the song- almost like he was despoiling it.
