Of course we have to wait until the official Billboard numbers come out. But it that figure (or around about) stands, it would seem a very interesting turn of events.

Soundscan sales are usually higher than the Hits Daily Double predictions. The Purple Rain remaster is officially selling only in the USA, so everywhere in the world, Prince fans bought it in preorders, so every copy sold account for the USA. That's what I talked about when I said the delay to 2022 for D&P is replaced by this release, which is nit nothing. It's in fact a major release. [Edited 11/21/21 0:35am]

Tomorrow on the 23th of November, will be announced the Grammy nominees for 2022. As one the best seller of the year, W2A should get some interesting nominations, such as best rnb album. I can see clearly a nomination for best male rnb performance ( if that still rxists!) for Born 2 Die 😋 Correct me if I m wrong, but I don't see any other black artist higher than Prince on that list, so he has real chances. They can't ignore Prince, or else that would be a conspiracy because "they're still running game"! 😜 [Edited 11/22/21 10:08am]

The sales numbers for Purple Rain are great (I imagine they dipped in the last couple of months as the old vinyl was phased out in anticipation of the new release) but I wish the estate could find a way to get the streaming numbers up too. It's the second least-streamed album in the top 50. As that is the future of music consumption it would be good to see it doing better there.

. Did they even break even? And why wouldn't they? It's one of the best seller of the year, and the expensive set sold like 20/25k copies, the equivalent of six CD or 4 vinyls. Recording costs were close to zero : they found 3 CD-R already pre-mastered, and just select a tracklist. The artwork material was already existing. Marketing costs were the cheapest ever known : the promotion was limited to send copies to the press, shipping it extensively in stores to be widely available, doing some listening parties, buying some views on YouTube... Not a dollar was spent neither in radio payola, nor in music videos. So that's likely one of the top ten albums most profitable in the list. The remaining unknown element is the money Sony spent for the initial contract. How much they paid to the estate to release that peculiar album? Now, we'll see tonight if they invested something to promote the album to the Grammys, or if they didn't even give a fuck about it. [Edited 11/23/21 6:31am] [Edited 11/23/21 6:42am]

They completely gave up their Netflix documentary. Which is a shame since it would have boosted his streaming numbers for years. A movie like Bohemian Rhapsody is the only way I can see to save his streaming numbers.

As expected with the new vinyl release of Purple Rain remastered, that's Purple Mania all over the place in the new Billboard charts, dated of 11/27/2021. Soundtracks : #1 ( a total of 529 weeks, a record) Vinyl : #2 Catalog albums : #4 Top album sales :#7 Billboard 200 : #30 Red (Taylor’s Version) did the best opening week in. Pure sales of the year with 369,000 copies sold ( cd, vinyl, digital). It sold 114,000 copies on vinyl in the week ending Nov. 18 — a new single-week record for a vinyl album since MRC Data began tracking sales in 1991. It beats the previous record, set when Swift’s own Evermore sold 102,000 copies on vinyl LP in the week ending June 3. The vinyl sales are particularly impressive, as the Red (Taylor’s Version) vinyl release is a 4-LP set that sells for hefty $49.99. We all wanted D&P to be released for Christmas. What would have it done on the charts? Released around the same time late 1991, MJ's Dangerous surprisingly reenters the top sales charts at #13.

The suspense was unbearable : Welcome 2 America has completely been ignored by the Grammy Committee! 🤣
Sony has clearly invested zilch in that album. Shame on them. Prince checked all the boxes though : he s black, defends BLM and cancel culture in his album, it's one of the best seller of the year... But no. W2A eventually won't have a second life, and will be no more remembered than the dozens of previous albums he released and wasn't promoted at all. I think Sony really missed the commercial potential of this album. That didn't worth pushing back D&P if it was for letting W2A so quickly. Edit : Best historical album 👎 : 5. SIGN O’ THE TIMES (SUPER DELUXE EDITION) Trevor Guy, Michael Howe & Kirk Johnson, compilation producers; Bernie Grundman, mastering engineer (Prince) Never heard about the other nominees in this BS category. Reply #7 has nothing to do with Purple Rain... PR is currently the #19 best selling album of the year ( old and new releases combined), from the first 45 weeks of 2021. , This week it sold enough to chart at #7, maybe it will push it to #18 best selling album of the year as of week 46.

Since then, not even a director's name has leaked. Which will be the first time ever in the industry where a director's name is hidden. Did they really need like 5 years to interview people? It's a wrong assumption. Covid slowed down so much in general, worldwide. And we did not even see the end of that. Ssince there's no official word on the cancelation... we just don't know (shit). How could the covid slow down things? The archivals material ( audio and video) is already existing in the vault. They just have to conduct some interviews. It doesn't take 3 years to do that and to edit it, for a supposed 6 parts documentary.

Well... i have no idea. I'm no expert in the field. If you are, please explain... I dare not to say how long things would take to get it finished when i'm not an expert in that. And to make a good documentary of a huge body of work that Prince left us with... (Artists of all diciplines talk/complain about the delay of projects since late 2019. This is not new.)

Ok, you're right. Let them take another 3 years to conduct their documentary, and then you could say again this wasn't cancelled, even if it's turned into something else. It's not like Prince streaming and physical catalogue needed it after all. Why wouldn't they wait like another 10 years after all? It's not like they already had the 1983 1st avenue movie that was supposed to be released in 2017 with PR deluxe, and absolutely did nothing with it. They wait, wait, wait... But the more they are waiting, the more people won't care about it in the end.

Again, i'm not an expert, but we all know he left a mess from we know so far. On all levels; vault wise, protection of his own goods and realestate, no will, lack of organizing or maintaining his dearest creations. Even at the moment of his passing it seemed like he still had a serious lack of confidence, and seemingly the inability to let go of control over everything. The known legal issues of today ongoing, very hard nuts to crack, and they're piling up. Not to mention a tangle of rights of his divided body of work, and all that next to an ongoing pandemic. And in the midst of all that, there still are yearly releases... not up to all our personal likes - me included. But that's the way it goes. I'm not happy either. The reality of it all seems to be much more complex than what I long for and I want 'right now' to be released.

There ya go Rodserling no need for drama There wasn't Covid restrictions in Hollywood between August of 2019 and march of 2020. That was largely the time needed to shoot and edit that documentary. Moreover, there are still numerous Hollywood movies amd tv shows that are shot since September of 2020. There are no restrictions at all since then. Of course, many movies were delayed- because they were physically released in theaters. On a digital platform such as Netflix, what could be the cause of a 3 years delay? 😃 And what about the live/documentary at 1st avenue that was supposed to be released on PR deluxe in 2017 ? That's because of the Covid too they don't do anything with it? Common, that has absolutely nothing to do with it. [Edited 11/25/21 0:49am]
