Can’t believe it’s been 20 years. How time flies. Still one of my favorite Prince albums of the last 20 years. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."
"We had fun, didn't we?"

THE BAD
- The god damned narration/segues - Preachy lyrics/religous message - Wedding Feast - Sound filters on the voices
I don't bust it out much and kind of burnt out it on it with 2 shows, an aftershow, the box set, a few bootlegs and the DVD but there's some good stuff on it.

Translation: The album went entirely over their head.

It looks like some mosque. Cool picture! I never seen it before.
I wish there was a 'fuller' Rainbow Children era

On the contrary.
TRC didn't go "over my head" at all. I just don't buy into the JW theocracy and the proselytizing, voice filters, segues or narration added anything to my enjoyment. The message was QUITE loud and QUITE clear to where I found it over wrought. I absorbed two live shows, an aftershow and a DVD of it. Trust me, I GOT IT.
I never much care for when Prince digs too deep into the "story" he wants to tell or his goofy interludes, regardless of the record. I love The Gold Experience, Love Symbol and (especially) Exodus but I edit out all that NPG Operator/Vanessa Bartholemew shit not becuse I'm too stupid or dense to understand it but because I DON'T LIKE IT. I didn't like Three Chains of Gold VHS thing or the Graffitti Bridge movie either but they weren't "over my head".
I found them openly distracting from my enjoyment of the music.
I didn't like the editing/shaky cam/story of The Undertaker DVD but I liked the music. I don't like the Beatles "Number 9" song on the White Album. I don't care what Prince and Larry think is the true word of God, especially when it's delivered the way it was.
Telling someone they're too ignorant to "get" the album comes off as kind of pompous sounding and I'm not the only person who found that the things I wrote about off putting so to each thier own. I didn't know it was an "all or nothing" experience but cool on both of you if you're All In and Full Blown Rainbow Children or whatever. I'm glad you like the entire record.
I did not.

Clearly it's an even worse received Anniversary than it was during its Celebration. Welcome to "the org", heartpeacesheart…

Sure it is not the real thing, but is it a piece of artwork or a photo that was processed? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. |

So, I took a walk around the block and came back to say I recognize Beaker, Mary Tyler Moore, a young and old Angela Davis, a blackface Mark Knopler, a guy who at first I thought I recognized to be Steven Van Zandt but now it looks like Jay Pharoah, somehow I managed to find Bella Thorne and I also recognize that maybe it's just all a dream Prince had to reinvent the Village People. I also see Correspondences.

You see all that. I just see domes and minuets. I think this was Prince's response to 9/11. "You have some planes, we got musical instruments". But Muslims don't party like it's 1999. Music is haram, forbidden.
I don't believe he was ever gonna convert swathes of the Muslim community to Jehovah Witness/watchtower faith. Watchtowers aren't minarets. This was naive at best, trolling at worst. Oh well.
