I never "loved" the song either, but it's fine in the context of the album.

They gave this one a lot of attention, with a Spike Lee video (weren't there two videos?). Maybe it was topical for the Desert-Storm era?

Yeah the video got attention because of Spike (even though it only consisted of news clips, if memory serves). I just don't remember the song getting on the radio.

MDM2N was a huge hit radio in France.
I was 6 years old in 1992 I thought it was Lionel Richie at the time smile

It was also broadcasted a lot in the background sound of many french tv programs, until at least the Early 2000's.
It's a classic, especially when you think it was "just" A 5th single, it charted very well worldwide, but had far better airplay than its ranking sales.

In the US, MDM2N was #14 on rnb airplay at the time of release, and #27 in airplay overall.

Still heard it on the radio last week but it was a station aimed at 80s and 90s music.

Diamonds and Pearls was my first Prince album and Thunder the first song that blew me away. One person did everything on one song? How?

Looking back on it now though I think this was the beginning of the end for Prince as a recording artist at the cutting edge of experimentation and commercial success.

Graffiti Bridge bombed despite some excellent experimental pop (Elephants and Flowers, NPG)- it had too many filler songs.

D&P was Prince plumbing the Pop depths without purpose or conviction.

Cream is essentially a blatant T Rex knock off
Push and Jughead featuring the 'not avant garde at all" Toni M, was Prince basically saying "I don't know what makes hip hop tick but here's some anyway"
Insatiable is a rerecording of Scandalous
Live 4 Love was probably conceived and recorded as a parody for fun
Daddy Pop is OK but forgettable.
Willing and Able is ruined by a rap...not for the first time or the last

Get Off was the one new sound on the album while other standouts like Walk Don't Walk, and Strollin were ignored.

Even Thunder when re listened to is overwrought to the detriment of its rhythmic excellence.

This is the album where we confirm what Graffiti Bridge had started to show: for Prince quantity, overindulgence and lyrics would Lord it over melody, hook, harmony rhythm, discipline and quality forevermore.

Tony's verse on W&A is probably the only time I actually like his rapping. Fits the song well. It's a band song and Prince always shared vocals on band stuff so idk what all the drama is about with this record. There's two blatantly corny songs in Push and Jughead. The rest are fantastic.

Live 4 Love is a scorcher.

Yep. I think it helps that it sounds like he's rapping through a phone line or something. His big, booming voice usually sounds kinda dopey.

Take a good note that the Do Me Baby single was announced 3 months before the actual release. And it's just a single...

So I guess D&P won't be announced until that release, that is to say late January 😂, t for an april/ may release at the soonest.

Then a RSD in july for a very rare album, such as The Undertaker or Chocolate Invasion.

Undertaker has been b00tl3gg3d to death from copies of the original.

Chocolate was a digital download so even easier to get hold of.

Wasn't The Truth already officially released "to death" With Crystal Ball?
Why The Undertaker amd Chocolate were easier to get than the Truth?
Your reasoning makes no sense at all.

If you cannot see the non-point in these releaes from the point of a somehwat hardcore collector then yes it does not make sense.

But for me the sense (or lack thereof) comes from the rehash.

I was just predicting, as always, the calendar of next year.
The whole point of The Truth re-release was that for the first time it was on LP amd had a special ( interactive?) Packaging.

For the record, I didn't care much of that release, but the fact is that it sold very well. So, that's how Sony will proceed now.
Whether you like that marketing strategy or not, they will do the same thing with one of these rare, more or less never released commercially, albums.
