But for me the sense (or lack thereof) comes from the rehash.

Get Off was the one new sound on the album while other standouts like Walk Don't Walk, and Strollin were ignored. Even Thunder when re listened to is overwrought to the detriment of its rhythmic excellence. This is the album where we confirm what Graffiti Bridge had started to show: for Prince quantity, overindulgence and lyrics would Lord it over melody, hook, harmony rhythm, discipline and quality forevermore.
