What happened during Come On (Remix) performance on Jay Leno?

Hello!

During the performance of Come On (Remix) in the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Prince is silent for a few beats, specifically at 1:12 into the performance.

I wonder what happened there.

To me it sounds as if he actually forgot the line.

But not being a native English speaker, I am not sure if I'm perhaps missing something here, and that blank line was intentional.

Thank you for your any thoughts on that.

Jay Leno was clapping off beat. Instead of on the 2 and 4, he was clapping on the 1 and 3. Prince stopped him and helped him to get on the beat lol

Sounds like the mic actually cut out or something. Prince didn't give a hoot if he was on the 1 and 3 or and 4. He's an old white guy, one of the biggest squares on television. Prince knew who he was with.

"eye don’t really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r."

I thought you were just joking, but after watching it again, I think you could be right.
Maybe he really holds up his hand to stop him and then nods his head on the 2 and 4 to show him when to clap? The quality of the video that I'm watching is not good, so I can't say, but the idea of that would be funny.

If you've ever heard the original studio version, Prince says something along the lines of:

"Just like the last name says, he'll burn in the fire..."

That was a diss at a music critic called Robert Hilburn, which got muted/censored/edited out of the broadcast.

I love the part where Marva makes the "oink oink" sounds (when Prince sings about the hogs) and starts to almost break up laughing.
